rt.66 on the way. thinking of running it @95 volts or so on a variac. thoughts?

I guess as long as you adjust the bias appropriately, it's worth experimenting with. I have a variac but only use it with my early 60's Fenders to bring my 124v wall voltage down to about 115v. Let us know how it works out if you try it.

Let us know how it works out if you try it. +1000 That might be TOO low. It will effect both Filament Voltage ( 6.3 V ac heater voltage ) as well as bias voltage, both can negatively effect amp tone. You must monitor both of these critical voltages as damage to your new amp may happen. The EVH school of amp torture. Z

thanks doc, i will abort this idea. works with some amps, (ftr37), i don’t understand the science, that amp has a “mixed” cathode/fixed bias scheme (?), perhaps that allows for more range. of safe voltages. dunno...

Doc's amps....no mods, no variacs needed.
The only 'mod' I've ever done on a Z amp... is switching out speakers. ha ha!
