The UPS man brought me this like-new (but used) ES-339 yesterday. So far, so good. Gonna give it a good setup tomorrow, although it plays really well just as it is. I've been wanting to give my 335 to my son and this might be a good replacement that I can gig (whenever we can get back to that) and not be too worried about it. Here ya go:

Very nice Lou. congrats. always loved the natural colored hollow bodies. what is the size difference between the 339 and 336? what pups are in it? Thanks Martin. The PU's are Gibson's MHS models. Don't know too much about em so we'll see how it goes. I believe the size of the 339 and 336 are basically the same, but the 336 is a Custom Shop model that has a one piece mahogany body with a maple top as I understand, while the 339 is built more on the 335 design. I have a good pal that highly recommends the 336, but for my budget this go around, it was more than I wanted to go.

Bravo!
The 335Studio (closed top) was my main guitar for close to 20 years. I got a good deal on a CS336 about 10 years ago, and it is my “go to” instrument for variety jobs.

I have a 2011 CS336 that I like very much. (Amazing deal from Rainbow Guitars on it a couple of years later.) Same body size as the 339. I wasn’t aware of a carving difference. I do know they have different pickups (my 336 has ‘57s) and I also believe the wiring is different. There are people on this board that prefer the 339 to the 336- I’ve never owned one, but I would expect the experience to be similar between them.
I play my 2013 (I think) 335 a bit more- that neck is simply amazing, but only slightly more amazing than the 336. Also, my 335 has Burstbuckers of some variation: these cut through a band/mix a little better than most humbuckers.

That's a really sweet looking guitar, Lou, congrats! It looks a lot like my Heritage 535 natural finish. It weighs 7lbs 7oz, it's really light and resonant. It's the same size as a 335.
Is the 339 very different from the 335? What's the weight like?

Is the 339 very different from the 335? What's the weight like? Thanks Dave. She weighs in at 6.7 lbs. Compared to a 335, it's basically the same construction but with a slightly smaller body. It's really comfortable to play, but it does have a little neck dive, so I have a strap coming from Levy's that will fix that. Also, it has Gibson's MHS pickups (Memphis Historic Spec) which were developed for ES series guitars as I understand it. I gave it a good setup so it's ready to go.

Hey Lou, do you find that the strap knob on the back instead of the upper horn takes a little while longer to get used to? I had a Epi 335 for a long time, and loved it sitting down, but it never felt totally comfortable standing up.

I have an older 335, and the strap button is on the back, so that's how I'm used to it. I'm looking forward to gigging this guitar, whenever that might be!

The 336 also has a ebony board where the 339's is rosewood. In my experience I thought the 339 did not sound much different than a 335, which is good or bad depending on your wants. It is handier though. The ebony board helps a 336 sound a little brighter/clearer. Both are very nice.

You could replace the tuners with something lighter. I swapped Grover 135 tuners for the stock Rotomatics on my 335's and it made a positive difference.
Your guitar is beautiful!
