Went to thetubestore.com to order a set of new set of tubes for my Z-Lux. I’m aware of ordering matching power tubes, but it gives me the option of matching all the preamp tubes as well (extra $5 each, adding $30 to the price). The $30 isn’t a huge issue, just wondering...is it worth it? Does Z match all the preamp tubes at the shop?

No. There is no benefit. I like to have the phase-inverter tube balanced, which is entirely different, if they have an option for that. That would be the Sovtek 12AX7-LPS.

I agree. I don't see the benefit (although I'm no tube expert).

I put 3 balanced tubes in V1 thru V3 in the SLO. The difference in attack and bloom was significant.

I can see where if the two sections of a twin triode are operating in parallel it could make a difference. Some amps are designed like that. But if they are in series I would not think it would matter much. You would have to examine the circuit to see which way the tubes are wired.
