In the buy/sell/trade section I noticed someone was selling a 25th Anniversary Carmen Ghia which came in a lunchbox head, had master volume, and was a limited run of only 50. This listing says they're about 13" x 8" x 8". That's rad! Question: Were other Dr. Z amps made in that small size? The 3 knob Dr Z. amps seem so rad, and I wish there were more smaller heads like that around!

Another idea: Has Dr. Z ever made any tube preamp pedals? It'd be cool to see the Dr. Z take on the Kingsley Constable format (see also: Victory V4 Sheriff, Effectrode Blackbird, etc.). I suppose the main difference in DNA is that those products probably use PCBs to reduce size, and all Dr. Z amps are hand-wired.

Yes. The Anniversary Ghia was a reissue to celebrate Doc's original Ghias built on Hammond reverb chassis. Those original amps (and some of Doc's prototype Ghias he built after he started to run out of Hammond chassis to build on) were small as well. No production amp today is on that small chassis. The Ghias is still built on the smallest chassis (same as the Z-verb in the attached pic). This pic actually has most of the different chassis/heads box sizes that Doc currently uses. The Anni Ghia is in the top left.

Hey Ben - here is a pic of four Ghias - upper left is one of original 50 Ghias made on Hammond organ chassis; lower left is a prototype Doc made when he was switching between the Hammond chassis and his own chassis. The one on the upper right is a 12BH7 Ghia (#50 I think and note the tone says Brite/Dark) and lower right is a standard Ghia. The Anniversary Ghia is the same size as the Hammond organ chassis and it has a MV. BTW - Doc's shop is rather small so he really doesn't have ability (or desire) to make pedals. Doesn't make sense financially either. He did work with Earthquaker on his OD pedal. Again welcome to the Forum - lot of good people and information here.

This is awesome, thanks for the info and history!!! That's quite the room you have there Mike, ha!
If anybody wants to trade an Anniversary Ghia for a Maz 18 NR MKII or a Matchless Lightning let me know!
