I got some nice P90's from helmi a couple of weeks back. I found a needs repair SG copy for a good price so they are going to go in that. Needs some work but I have good hardware and pickups so it should sound great when it's all done! sneak peak pic

the paint on the guitar has some damage to it so I am probably going to just live with it. There are some cratches and such that I am going to polish out. The neck is straight as an arrow so the fret board will just need to be cleaned up and then I will level and crown the frets. I've got a klusen bridge, tail piece and tuning machines to go it. I'll cut a new bone nut after the frets are dressed. I'm building a telecaster right now so I am messing with the SG in between coats of paint! Todd

I spent time with some polish and scratch remover. There are pretty serious dings and chips in the paint it looks okay from a few feet away. The frets are level and the fret board is straight so some clean up and lemon oil and that is looking pretty good and rosewood is fairly dark. I am going to cut the but and install the tuners before I final locate the pickups but I wanted to mock it up and take a pic. The chrome with the cherry is magical to me.

any tips on getting a stuck truss rod moving?

Is the nut completely stuck? Dan Erlewine says to always loosen a truss rod before tightening it. If it will loosen, loosen it and then a bit of oil on the threads. If it's totally stuck and is Gibson style with an opening on the one end, a bit of penetrating oil in the hole while the guitar is standing up so gravity, if you are lucky, will move it down through the threads. DON'T force it or use a lot of torque, many have been broken that way. If you are really brave, you might have someone bend the neck into a slight backbow, as if the rod was overtightened and then at the same time, try and loosen the nut. The idea is you are taking some of the pressure off the nut. Too hard and now it's a broken neck. Swearing at it is always worth trying. I'm guessing some of the real repair guys on here will have some other ideas.

If you use penitrating oil I would suggest AeroKroil. I have never had any other penetrating oil that worked anywhere as good as this stuff. And it only takes a very small amount. It is fairly expensive but well worth it. At our local municipal airport there are cans of this stuff in every hanger. Our fly boys use it religiously.

Use very little of the Kroil. It's great penetrating quality also make it wick into everything it touches. Nice choice of pickups for the SG. That is what is in mine.

Here are some update pictures. Also, once I got the correct truss rod tool it moved freely so no issues there. I cut the nut this morning and hope to enough of the rest together so I can plug it in later today. I need to get the pick ups and pick guard lined up and holes drilled and I can do the final assemble and the start getting it set up

It's all finished now. I did some truss rod adjustment this morning and it is playing nice.
Plugged it into my Therapy and its sounds real good . . . . but then again, every guitar I own sounds good through the Therapy!
I am going to use it to record songs for church this week. I'll figure out a way to share when its done.
