Greetings, this is my first post. I just purchased my first Dr Z amp - a used Cure and I pick it up tomorrow. Very excited as I am hoping that the Cure will cure my tone quest and yield better tone than what I have been getting from my Fender PRRI.
My question is: what is the difference between operating a foot pedal through the Return and Send Jacks vs the amp's Input jack? Or are the Return/Send jacks only for a pedal board?
Thanx for your time and assistance. cheers

Thanx for your time and assistance. cheers Welcome to the forum. Essentially, the effects loop is best for utilizing 'time-based' effects (delay, reverb, modulation, etc.). In this manner, it avoids receiving an overdriven signal from the preamp that includes these types of effects that would have been plugged into the front of the amp. In these cases these types of effects can run away/wash out when amplified/overdriven in the preamp section. Used in the loop, the guitar signal is driven through the preamp and then the time-based effect is added before it enters the power section. Overall, the simple way to look at it is you will have more control over these types of effects in the loop. On the other hand, overdrive/distortion effects are likely better run in front of the amp.

Well the Cure arrived home today and I put it through 2 hours of playing. Wow! No wonder this amp is called the Cure - it certainly "cured" my tone quest. Anyone wanna buy a used Fender PRRI? cheers. Stay safe and healthy.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your Cure!
I gig mine with my entire pedalboard in front (including delay and modulation). I've never used the loop.

I use a Strymon Flint in the loop of my Cure and a King of Tone and fuzz pedals in front of the amp. It works well. But, it's a low enough gain amp that you can get away with running everything in front of the amp.
