In my 12 years or so here there has been: Zendrive Timmy OCD KOT FDII Tim and so on. wonder if there will ever be the next must have. I remember when I first got here everyone needed a Zendrive. Yes I'm bored!

Doesn't the KOT still have a wait list? It may be the "biggest of the biggest"! It may be hard to top that one.

Jeez... when I joined the internet community, it was all about true-bypass everything, modded Tube Screamers & Boss stuff, the (real) Klon Centaur, Landgraff M'OD with swirly paint, Fuzz Face-style boutiques, wah pedals that actually work with said fuzz's, etc. My, how things change.
The "next big thing" always tends to be something that none of us have conceived-of as being a legitimately viable product, yet... So, probably nothing that we could guess at the moment.

I just remember everyone here had to get the Zendrive. And yes True Bypass was a big thing. there was even a bit where the Keeley Mod on a BD2 was a rather large topic here. Just fun to look back at the old posts.

I had and let go: Zendrive Tim Timmy FDII KOT Few others but not as popular. Wish I had the Zen, KOT and a Plimsoul that I had. For the money I can't believe how good the Plimsoul was. Also had the Wampler D -Style that was pretty good. (can't remember the name it was the old one)

I can't quite spend several hundred on an original ZD.

Bought both a Tim and a Timmy in a great package deal about 10yrs ago. The Timmy is a mainstay on my regular board. The Tim is on and off my smaller grab and go board. Had a Zendrive back when they were all the rage. I've always felt that it's possible I didn't give this pedal a fair shake before moving on. I've got an early Barber Burn Unit that seems to do the same thing so its Zen is not something I thought much about over the years. I have a blue pre-FM FDII / pull knob for comp-cut) with a bad switch (I'll get to it one of these days) along with a red custom shop one with he FM/comp cut switch. I like these just fine but I like the Tim/Timmy a lot more. I use them together with a Barber Gain Changer. I'm not a real high gain guy so these work out well for me. Had a Hotcake that I've always regretted selling. At the time I wasn't happy how it sounded through my Fender amps. I think it would probably be perfect fro my Stang Ray.
Every now and then I'll pull out this Bjfe Baby Blue OD that I've had since they were flavor of the month. I remember thinking I was nuts for paying almost $200 for it. It's worth 2 1/2 times that these days and I'm thinking I should probably move it along soon as well as some other collectible types that I don't use all the much.
I used to be in this mode where I had to try out as much gear as I could. Especially pedals. I'd sell or trade if the opportunity presented itself but was never too aggressive about doing so. The result is that I've accumulated some things that will probably never be used regularly again. It's probably time to start clearing some stuff out.

You know, I acquired & sold an original Zendrive on this forum. Very good pedal, just sort of redundant with what I had at the time (and probably still have, since my Barber B.U.S.S. can cover this territory).
But MAN, I just looked at those new prices @ Lovepedal. Jee-zus! I wish perhaps I'd held onto that original one for resale value!

I've had and sold 2 or 3 original Zendrives--nice pedals, but there are others around that do very similar things. Ditto the KoT--I've had three and sold them all. Cool, as dual pedals go, but the pedal-building world caught up and passed them several years ago. Wampler, Jetter and others are building stuff that's every bit as good without the super-premium prices and ridiculous waitlists, and the Neo Drive In that Mike alerted us to sounds and feels like a dead-on replica of the original Zendrive to me, recently on sale for $99. The one I regret selling is my old Barber/Clark Gainster--had two and sold them both. That thing was magic with a Strat, somehow--or at least my memory wants to think so. It's hard to predict what the next big thing will be--if some famous player has one on his board for ten seconds and then the thing goes out of production, that's probably your baby.

If I had to guess, though, I think the future of the pedal world is digital modeling, or whatever the big next step-up in that technology will be. TC's been building pedals for several years that you can program with your phone. Line 6 and Kemper are doing amazing things with modeling, or whatever we're calling it these days. The key will be size, cost, simplicity of use, and compatibility with existing gear.

^^^this
As “profiling” or precise digital modeling improves, we’ll have pedals that can mimic 100’s of actual pedals. I think there will always be tone junkies coveting “real” pedals, but that will diminish. Studios will likely continue to have assortments of pedals, as they do amps, but gigging musicians will tend to gravitate towards size, bang for buck, and flexibility.
And, just me personally, I put the KOT in the same box with Dumble amps. Hard to imagine waiting 3 years for the privilege of buying any pedal. But that’s just me.

Next Big Thing...hmmm...not sure what or when...but I'll wait with baited breath!
I'm quite happy with my Lightspeed, Hot Cake, Timmy and KTR. I've owned two KOTs and sold both....but signed up again last month. Figured the "third time's a charm!"

Tim has never left my board since I bought it. I never really got the Zendrive thing. I only sold my original Klon when prices got too wild to pass up.

This is nonsense. People should go practice!
No one...not even your band mates, will be able to tell the difference in tone. ...let alone someone in the audience.
There are many guitar players that think they'll be a 'better player' if they get a certain piece of gear. (especially a pedal) No, you'll be the same. You get better by practicing and trying to expand your limits.

My name came up in October 2012 and I ordered my pedal in January of this year. I received the pedal 3 weeks later- after waiting almost 2 years and putting it off for over 8 more. I had Prince of Tones (Princes of Tone?)- one on my pedalboard and one loose and decided to replace one of them with a King of Tone. The PoT and KoT are really the only ODs I've liked.
