This came up in my feed today - I had never seen it before. While the video isn't all that great the sound is - definitely worth the watch. Someone said this was from SNL - could be.

It was. It was part of a bit where Lorne Michaels offered the Beatles something like $500.00 to get back together on SNL. Harrison "took him up on the offer" but since the others didn't show, Michaels wouldn't pay him if I remember correctly. Wouldn't even give him a quarter of it since the offer was for all four.

Yes SNL, If I remember correctly Paul was scheduled and spontaneously asked George to join him, which may have been because of the Beatle offer?

Remembering further (it takes time for an old guy) I also think I remember (or dreamed) an interview with Paul McCartney who said, though the public thought they were feuding, as the show was going on, he was at Lennon's apartment in New York drinking with Lennon and they toyed with the idea of driving to the studio and just showing up for the bit, but decided against it.

Wow! It's amazing how good George's voice sounded at that point in his career. Thanks fpr posting that Mike.

Well, I'd place George first, then John (a close second), then Ringo and finally that other guy.

And as urban legend has it: John and Paul were at John's place at the Dakota watching SNL as this video aired. They gave serious consideration to running down to NBC studios to see if they could perform and get 1/2 the money.
EDIT...found this:
Unknown to Michaels and the rest of the world, the Beatles' two principal songwriters were about only one and a half miles away, watching the show along with 22 million other people. As Lennon said in 1980, "Paul ... was visiting us at our place in the Dakota. We were watching it and almost went down to the studio, just as a gag. We nearly got into a cab, but we were actually too tired. ... He and I were just sitting there watching the show, and we went, 'Ha ha, wouldn't it be funny if we went down? But we didn’t.”
McCartney has confirmed that this took place. “John said, ‘We should go down, just you and me. There’s only two of us so we’ll take half the money.’ And for a second. … But It would have been work, and we were having a night off, so we elected not to go. It was a nice idea – we nearly did it.”

Personally, I'm glad John and Paul didn't go. George and Paul Simon singing their own songs is a beautiful thing. IMHO, adding Lennon and McCartney would have messed it up.

Could you imagine the looks on people's faces if they did show up? Wow
