Looking at a Jetta head the speaker input is eight ohms, I would like to use my 2x12 cab ( two eight ohm speakers) wired at 4ohms. is this possible with out damage to the amp ?

If it's an 8 ohm tap, you don't want to run a 4 ohm cab. It could damage the amp. You could rewire the cab in series, which would give you a 16 ohm cab. You can run that in the 8 Ohm tap without any problems.

Most folks say they can't hear a difference. Some say they can. What they generally say they hear is a bit more compression and a small drop in volume. Some who can hear it think that those things are positive, some don't.
