i currently have blue painter's tape running over all the knobs on my pedal board to keep the settings from changing accidentally. i just saw this video with a novel idea. anyone else try this?

Leave it to Paul! I saw that as well and thought it is a great idea - along with hack sawing the level knob on my Ditto Looper off so the volume stays the same. (Haven't done it yet though)

Have to admit that I've read several interviews with Paul Gilbert but never actually watched one where I heard his voice. Like how he doesn't come across as taking himself too seriously. Also reminds me a bit of Larry David. Like the o-ring idea. Might have to try it out as I'm alway clumsily screwing up my pedal settings.

Years ago I did that with my old Fulldrive2 so the Comp Cut pull pot could not go down.
I usually use a china marker.

I usually use a china marker. I tried that once and it didn't work out too well. no one told me i was supposed to use it on the face of the pedal and not the knob itself.

Do the o-rings improve tone like a washer would?

I take round felt pads and punch a hole in the middle. Got them at the hardware store where furniture foot pads are sold. Those work great, I have an SG that I put a new harness in. The pots were way, way too easy to move so I tried those felt pads and voila!
Not as effective at tone improvement as a washer would be though...
