The footswitch suddenly stopped working on my Nova. I tried using another switch that I could plug a cable into the switch and then the amp. A couple of times as I was plugging into the amp with the plug partially inserted I could hear the amp click and it would engage then it just totally stopped. Any ideas?

It is quite possible that the input jack for the footswitch has an issue and is not switching as directed. Not sure how to test that though other than replacing the switch, which I am Not recommending at this time. Hopefully someone else will chime in.

The jack has always been very tight on the plug.

Well not a problem that I have heard before. Been building Galaxie/Nova amps for 15 years and this the first reported non switching . There is an active component that works the switching it is a relay, possible failure. Does the led light up ? Possible low voltage PS failure . Would need to see the amp , shouldn't be too difficult to repair.

The LED has always been partially lit since I got the amp, just a light glow but would turn bright when OD was engaged. I bought the amp off the forum, just slightly used and have had no problems until Saturday night at a gig. It wouldn't engage.

Doc, would the switching relay be something I could get from you and have a local tech replace it? The amp works great other than not switching and I am very leary of UPS and FedEx.

Thanks Doc. When the world settles down I have a friend that is an authorized Fender repair tech and I will get him to look at it.

Have you thought about the preamp tubes? I say so because I tried some NOS Sylvania's in mine and after about 10 minutes, weird things started happening with the channel volumes. In one instance I could get the OD channel to work but not the normal channel. I was also getting some strange noises when engaging and disengaging the Standby. I pulled those Sylvania's out and replaced them with the stock tubes and everything has been perfect since. I sent the NOS ones back. Just a thought.....

I might try that to see if it works. The LED won't light and it has absolutely no effect on the amp pushing the button off or on. No volume change, no noises, popping, scratching, nothing.

Well if the LED doesn't lite at all , then I would say the 5 Volt DC power supply isn't functioning . So an open resistor or open diode would cause your symptom not a bad relay. Without 5 volts DC the relay will not switch.

Thanks Doc. I will take that advice to my local tech.
Just to let you know I have been running it on the clean side pushing it with a compressor and a couple of drive pedals and it sounds amazing.

Now I am really confused. The LED on my Nova head as always had a slight glow when the OD was not engaged and would light up bright when engaged. The OD channel totally stopped working at a gig a few weeks ago. The LED no longer had the faint glow and the amp would not change channels. I have tried multiple switches and even did the closed plug trick but nothing worked so I just played it on the clean channel and used dirt boxes for my overdrive.
Since all gigs have been put on hold for covid I haven't played my Nova in 3 plus weeks. I hooked it up this morning and the LED had the familiar light glow when I turned the amp on and now the channel switching is working. I am completely at a loss for any idea what's going on. I guess the proverbial Gremlins.

That is strange. but a least you get to play your Nova while we're all on "break" between sets.

I gave it a good workout today. Turned up the reverb and delay pedals a little and did a feeble attempt at finger picking. I was playing my pink Charvel Super Strat on the front pickup and was getting great tone. Of course I had to switch to the hot bridge pickup and do some noodling before I wrapped up. Sure does make me impatient to get back with my bandmates.
