After a gig, I turn off the standby switch first and then the power switch on my 2005 Maz 18 w/Reverb. I've noticed both switches are warm to the touch after playing for a couple of hours. I've never experienced warm switches on any other amp I've owned. Is this normal for the Maz 18?

The heat from the tubes has to go somewhere. Did you have the amp backed up against something? Don't worry about turning the stand by off first. It's function is to hold back some juice to the tubes when they are first warming up to extend their life. Sounds like they are plenty warm by time your turning them off!

I had approximately the same year Maz. I noticed the same. Never gave it a worry. Never suffered a problem and owned the amp for 13-14 years and many gigs and rehearsals.

The back of my cabinet is open to air.

El84 amps tend to run hotter... The entire face plate of all my past and current Dr Z's, including the switches, is always fairly warm (or even hot) after a couple hours.

My MAZ's switches also get pretty warm.

Mine gets warm too. It's just chassis heat from the transformers and tubes, no worries.

Thanks for the replies. It appears to be a normal occurrence.

My M12 is a little like that. The switches don’t get hot but the back panel warms up a bit.
I always figured that it might be related to the fact that mine came new from the factory with a 5AR4 rectifier. If so, it’s a happy trade off for me. When I called in to ask about it the doc said it was likely doing 18-20 watts and I believe it based on how loud it is.
