I have a 2005 Maz 18 that came with an Avatar G12H. It's a good speaker but a little spikey on the highs and boomy on the bass at times. A friend sent me an Eminence Texas Heat to see if I was interested. From what I've read online, it has a pretty hefty mid boost compared to the G12H. Has anyone tried one? I'm curious of other opinions before I spend the effort to swap them.

It's one of my favorite speakers. Sounds good to me with the 18 and I love it with a Therapy. Probably not the speaker if you are going for a Fender like sound.

Thanks! I've had plenty of Fenders and want more of a Vox AC30 sound.

Did you try it, and if so, what did you think? I did try it once, but it wasn't a great fit to me, in a way I couldn't really put my finger on. The mids of the speaker just didn't fit right with the mids of the amp, for the cleans I wanted.

I never installed it. The Hellatone 30 in it just sounds so good, I don't wanna mess with it.

Maz Jr works well with a lot of different speakers. My current favorite is the Reaper HP. It's fuller than a Greenback and clearer than the Z12, which both sound really good too.

If you want to retain that Celestion G12H-30 richness but lose the spikey highs, I happen to think that the Celestion G12-35XC might do just that. You should check the "Market Place" section of this forum to see if there happens to be one there right now..? (No comment on whose it might be.)
