My satisfaction with my recent Celestion 10” gold in a 1x10 Z combo cabinet with the Ghia has me considering matching a gold with the Z10 in my 2x10 convertible cab. I love the Z-10’s and have sworn by them. The gold got me thinking how the two great speakers might sound together. The gold I bought was a 8 ohm. If I mixed them to see if I liked it, would I have a 12 ohm effective load? By plugging into the 8 ohm tap would I get a fair representation of the sound? Anybody mix those two or other alnico speakers? I’m targeting this for use with my Therapy.

There’s a couple of us on the forum running the Z 2x10 cab with a Gold 10”/Z 10” combination. It sounds glorious, perfect balance between low end and high end. I thought the two Z speakers were too dark and bass heavy, I love what the Gold 10” did for the 2x10 cab. You’ll need a 16ohm speaker though as Doc ships the cabs with 16 ohm Z speakers.

Yep. I running that combo in a Z 2x10 convertible cab. Sounds great to my ears. I'm pushing mine with a EZG-50.
I think the speakers pair up great together.

First, one speaker at 8-ohms + another speaker at 16-ohms = 5.33-ohms (not 12); and because 5.33 is close to 4, and the 1.33-ohms difference is a relatively safe mismatch, you can use the 4-ohm speaker connection on your amp without worry. In response to the 2nd part of your query; the 8-ohm speaker will likely overpower the 16-ohm speaker. But don’t take my word for it when you can easily grab a screwdriver and solve the mystery for yourself, at your leisure. Click on either, or both, of the 1st two links below for a more in-depth look at the generally confusing subject of ohms and speaker compatibility.
