Ok, so, I had a little time over the past few days to record a bit. The title's a bit of a joke- I had hernia repair surgery a couple weeks ago. Just going for a cool soulful vibe. Pretty much all the electric guitars are my Strat through a Swart AST, with the exception of the driven guitar panned right (I think) when it kicks up a notch, which is my Collings I35lc into my Dr. Z Carmen Ghia. The acoustic is my Eastman E20ooSS. P-Bass with flat wounds, and I play some particularly ****** sounds on the organ. Drummer courtesy of Logic, as usual. I dunno. I like the vibe on this, but I'm not super happy with (all) of the lead playing, but I'm out of time, and we're heading out of town for a few days, so it seemed like a good time to call it "done". soundcloud.com/the-opera-panther/im-torn

It's got a good groove. And, nice flow. Doesn't sound like a hernia. And, that's probably good. The lead has a nice flow. Your 'out of time' comes across as feel. The lead has a real nice tone. It's cool when you kick it up. Nice! It's got my head boppin'.

Funny- I meant out of time to record, but, yes, there’s a couple bits where my playing time is an issue. Oh well. That’s what happens when I one-time everything. A particular challenge on this one was the gainer solo at the end. I have pretty noisy power in my room, and playing a strat with gain certainly doesn’t help. When I listened to the playback, there was a ton of noise between phrases. I tried a noise gate, which helped a bit, but ultimately, I killed everything between phrases. Took a little bit, and the file looks like a bunch of chopped little bits, but it mostly worked, and isn’t too obvious, but I can tell.

Ah! Re-read and now get the ‘out of time’ comment. Doesn't sound it. Maybe it’s good to have pressure to get done. I take waaay too long to finish my projects. Maybe I can learn something. And, that was good tone and feel.
I was scratching my head as to why you didn’t think the solo was in time. 😀

Like I said, I’m generally ok with most of it, and it sounds like “me”, which is par for the course. Tough to shake that. Here’s the thing, and I’ve said this before: I’d much rather something be done than perfect. Perfect’s never done, and given the limited time I have to do this, and the fact that no more than maybe 25 people are ever going to hear this, it seems like my goal kinda needs to be done.

That’s kinda funny- I’m familiar with both songs (Wolfman more than Soulshine). Very similar chords/progression, although the feel is different from both. Don’t remember thinking of either while I was doing this, but I guess influences gonna influence.
