I know that the Cure can get dirty on its own, but I like to get an amp on the verge of breaking up (Keith Richards dirty rhythm) and then hit the front end with a drive/boost. Anyone using drive pedals other than the Z boost that’s included? I’m having luck with the Barber Gain Changer and a RYRA Klon Klone.

The Gain Changer is so versatile and sounds FANTASTIC with the Cure. I have mine on the “flat” eq, Unlimited mode but with the gain around 9:30. The unlimited mode has sweet harmonics I assume due to its asymmetrical clipping.

I use a Timmy for light OD and a combination of a RYRA Klone into a KOT for solo tones (both set with light OD but together are pretty mean!) Before the Timmy, I used a Boss BD-2 w Keeley mod for a long time and it sounded great as well.

I’ve always used a K type pedal afterwards as a solo boost. Do you have the gain set really low on the RYRA this way?

I played a gig Saturday, outdoor, doing jazzed up Christmas songs and some standards with vocals. With the volume at 10 o'clock, Master at 3 o'clock, and level at about 1 o'clock, my Cure was sounding great with my Legacy or hollow body McCarty. To push it into Christmas Grind I used my Timmy as an always on clean boost (just a bit of hair) and my Tim for solo OD. I couldn't have been happier, and the folks (including other guitarists) said it sounded outstanding from 15 feet away.
But I do miss my Flying Dragon /o\

I’m curious how the 15th anniversary V3 is going to sound. Prices of Timmy pedals continue to climb and climb! I’m using the Klone/Gain Changer stacking similar to how you described stacking your gain stages. Thanks for sharing!

That thing sounds great! I couldn’t find any used ones on Reverb. They must be hard to find.

He's since stopped building pedals and moved into scuba diving. I'll keep my eyes open for one. Someone on the Forum might have one they may be willing to part with.

Here's a Draconis which is actually a double Flying Dragon - you can set one side clean and one side dirtier. Great pedal (I have one of each). reverb.com/item/29820155-used-lizard-leg-effects-draconis-goldHere's our own Frankie Starr demoing the pedal

KOT is set fairly mild with both sides engaged and the V's at noon and the drives at around 1-2. I use Strats and this combination gives me the solo tone I'm looking for. I use a looper and the RYRA/KOT combo is on one footswitch. I'm sure the RYRA into most other good drives would give you good results as well. I'm interested in hearing what you end up with (although are we EVER really set on OD's?)

As a straight clean boost, I’ve had great success with the Barber launch pad. I’ve mostly used it as an always on pedal to push my Maz18 front end. I’ve also used it in other ways as listed in the description. Only down side is it’s size, not a deal breaker for me. It was an always on pedal at the end of a larger board. reverb.com/item/28895058-barber-launch-padon a smaller board I’ve gone between the Timmy and a Gain Changer for mild OD, and pushed them with an RC Boost. Many ways to achieve similar ends.

I use a Wampler Tumnus Deluxe if I need a boost. I like it because I can also use it to get a Mids boost when I need it.

Playing and tone sounds great to me! If those are the gain stages YOU are looking for, then I say go for it! FWIW....I might recommend you try keeping the RYRA "always on" and using the GV to clean it up. I didn't think the Barber was too gainy....but that's such a personal thing and also dependent on how much grit you need based on the style of music you play.

Sounds good to me...not too gainy at all. Nice tone, brother! Isn't the Cure a great amp?
