I watched this flick on Amazon Prime yesterday.
Gawd, it's REALLY an awful Bond flick. Roger Moore is almost 60 in the film...and he looks older. (Made worse by his hair) Tanya Roberts is almost life-like. Walken actually played a pretty good psyco villan...I'll give him that.

Not the series' finest hour.

uhm... it is terrible but Octopussy was worse.
If I only had these 3, I'd be happy.

I like most of them as long as I keep them in perspective. I feel kind of sorry for Roger Moore though. The cheesy scripts were not his doing and I'm sure he was a good enough actor to have pulled off a better Bond if the scripts had been written that way. Special mention for "The World is Not Enough" because of Sophie Marceau and the Garbage theme song. I'm glad they got back more in line with the cold war thug in a tux with the more recent offerings instead of the wise cracking pretty boy with toys thing.

For a long time I was a Connery-only Bond fan. Now I'm Connery/Craig only. The portrayals are night and day, but I like them both. The rest, not so much.

The only book in the series I read was Dr. No. I highly recommend reading at least one of the books to get a better sense of the character.

I've read several of the Ian Fleming books. I think Craig's portrayal is closest to the books. Funny thing is, Connery was able to discuss the character with Fleming....so you would think his portrayal would be closest.
My take on the book's character:
1) He's not a nice guy 2) He lives in constant fear of death 3) He's afraid..a lot. (This simply doesn't come out in the films) 4) He drinks WAY too much. (and smokes over a pack a day) 5) He has no friends and no possessions. (Felix Leiter is more of a professional association, but it's as close as it gets.) I take that back, he has the Austin Martin car. It's the one luxury he affords himself. Suits, shoes and expensive watches don't count. 6) He treats women rather poorly.

I read all of the books many, many years ago, even a few of the John Gardner continuations. I believe his first car was a huge BRG open air 1931 4.5 Litre Blower Bentley. (No, I'm not a Bond geek, I had to look it up.) Like I said, a cold war thug in a tux with few (no) redeeming social values. NOT a nice guy by anyone's definition.
Ian Fleming's Bond would not have sold many movie tickets.

I read them all while I was stationed overseas in the Air Force. There wasn't much else to do except drink and that got old quickly. I enjoyed them all. I thought most were better than their movie adaptations. Not saying the movies were bad. I still think they are entertaining and that is all they were meant for. I may pass on the new one.

I'll admit, I'm a little gun-shy about the new one. After the previous one SPECTRE...was not good, I'm nervous about the new one.

I liked Spectre pretty well. You can't beat a high-speed chase through the streets of Rome in $250,000 sports cars. Why are we nervous about the new one? Doesn't sound any sillier than the rest of them.

Guess i didn't like Skyfall so much. one of those Facebook memory posts just popped up for this day back in 2012. I'd written: ============================================ Saw "Skyfall" on Christmas day. To paraphrase "This is Spinal Tap", I have a two word review... "Sh*t Fall". ============================================
also... for the spinal tap reference..
