Hey y’all. I’ve got a Z-Plus that I wanting to get a 1x12 convertible cab to go along with. Looking to add a Maz 38 head that I wouldn’t mind having for bigger gigs...Humbucker Music has a red 2x12 open back cab that would match my red Z-Plus perfectly. Don’t really need a 2x12, and wondering if it would be overkill. Weight is an issue, but mainly wondering if 2x12 is going to be more than I need. Thoughts?

I bet that's heavy. Is there such a thing as over kill in rock n roll?

Pop out wheels on the cab are an option, are relatively inexpensive and easy to install.

Pop out wheels on the cab are an option, are relatively inexpensive and easy to install. I’ve got a hand truck that I wheel my amps around with. And I’m usually the first one at the gig to setup so I don’t have to maneuver around the rest of the guys. The only thing that concerns me is lugging it up and down the steps at our house when going to a gig.

I have a 2x12 Z cab and I love it. Sounds amazing and so full. However i only take it out to big gigs as it's just too much for most small stages.

Moving it is THE only perceivable problem. And still better than moving my super reverb ( Which I think gained weight over the years)!
But a 2x12 sounds better usually than a 1x12! Like the zwreck to me sounds best that way, But still great 1x12

I guess it really boils down to your stage volume needs, and if you mic your amp or not. I've got a couple of 2x12 cabs that I've never gigged, because my 1x12 Z convertible cabs sound so full. I bought them when I sold my 4x12, "just in case". I've never needed to pull them out. If I want to get loud, I pull out my Z-Wreck 1x12 combo and crank it up. Problem solved.

I went from lugging a 4-12 cab to a 2-12 cab to a 1-12 studio combo cab. I am totally happy with the 1-12 and I gurantee you nobody in the crowd will notice a difference in your sound and your back will love you after the gig and further on down the road.

I’ve always loved 2x12, especially verticals. I have a few. But more and more I realize I really don’t need that much speaker horsepower - if I’m at a gig that needs a 2x12 chances are very high I’ll be mic’ing the amp.
Lately, I’ve really started considering that if I had 4 Z convertible 1x12’s with a variety of speakers, I could mix n match at will. And go from 1x12 to 2x12 in any combination, easily. Like the OP, I use a convertible hand truck so load in/out isn’t that much of a consideration.

I am a head and cab guy. Don't own a single combo. I have two 2x12 cabs and one 1x12 cab. I tend to take the 1x12 almost exclusively. It's lighter, and has a less efficient creamback M to keep stage volume down. Only reasons I would ever take a 2x12. - Need more stage volume (never the case) - Or am able to mic both speakers (2x12 has mixed speakers) - Really "need" the sound of one of the speakers in my 2x12 (rare. I always cave and justify the 1x12). - Just wanting to spoil myself and willing to haul the big boy. *Mind you, I always mic up my cab, so that's a critical factor. I would say a 2x12 is more than you need, unless you really just want it, for one of those reasons above. But in the truest sense, yes, a 1x12 really is all you need. You can hear it. You can mic it. You can pick it up with one hand

I have the Z Backline 2x12 and it's my favorite cab I own! Perfect for live and in the studio, cause it's light, convertible open/closed back, and it's not as deep as a lot of other cabs so it conserves space when loading up and in the iso cab closet in my studio. It's also great cause it's well constructed and easy to switch speakers out if you want. I'm constantly switching between different speakers in the studio. It's not very heavy at all cause it's not as deep, which also makes carrying it easy cause it won't whack your legs as much when carrying it. Plus it sounds better than any cab I own, even with my high gain tones, it's amazing. Blows my Orange 2x12 and Avatar out of the water!! Mine is also red so that's great for you.

Even though those days are behind me now, when I was use my Z amps in the "head only" option I also had 2 1x12 Z cabs as well as a Z 2x10 cab. When I had a Maz 18 NR, Remedy, and a Z28, I could mix heads with cabs as I thought would suit best. But I could also, with the help of a PCNS splitter cable, combine two of my 1x12 cabs or go 1x12 with a 2x10. Options are always great (if you can afford them), just think smart and logically before buying too much "option" so it doesn't sit in a room becoming something to stack things on.

Bought the guitar I really wanted, and am looking at getting another Z, never had a head/cab setup, and I’d like to go that route. Yes, the 2x12 is more than I need, I agree.

Yes! And for the record, no shame in that. I love a 2x12. Own an Avatar and Z best. Love having them and they are not ‘overkill’. I just don’t haul them to gigs. Still valuable and enjoyable though.
