I just picked up a 1x10 combo cab from ToddEHolly. I'm going to build a Ghia grab and go. I've read almost the entire Ghia threads and it seems the Celestion Gold 10 gets the majority of love. I thought I would seek additional opinions before I pulled the trigger. There are several additional options from WGS and Eminence. Playing mostly Blues, Classic R&B/Soul and Funk. Using single coil and humbuckers almost equally. The band has a good handle on volume. Any thoughts would be appreciated. 10" Gold 😀😀😀👍

I have used 3 different speakers with my 1x10 Ghia and really liked each of them.
Celestian Gold was my favorite with the 10" Greenback a very close second.
I also really liked the Z 10" Speaker. I was alot more balanced than I thought it would be. It did take a bit to break in and was a little "stiff" at first.
I like aspects of all three speakers alot. If money is not an issue go with the gold. The 10" Greenback is much tighter than the 12" version and sounds great too but a less expensive than the gold.
The 10" Z speaker would be my cost effective option and may surprise you.
my2 cents, Todd

I really have to give another vote for the 10" Gold. Open back, it sounds amazing.

I put a Greenback in mine when I first got it, but I ended up re-installing the Z10. The Greenback will break up quicker, but the Z-10 seems more pedal friendly.

Gold has stayed in amp and don't feel need for anything else..its my second go around with it and it does give amp a nice notch up in quality tone...still have the eminence ramrod which was a great speaker in amp (lots of lowend for a 10"),The lil"buddy is another, docs 10 speaker was great also...haven't tried wgs et-10...for now gold is were she sits contented.

I'm a big fan of Doc's 10's. Had them in my Maz18 2x10 and I bought a 2x10 convertible, which I still have. I thought I would try something different. They're 16 ohm and my Ghia has a 8 ohm tap. I know I can use that, but I'm wondering what I'll sacrifice as opposed to an 8 ohm speaker. I'm leaning Alnico in nature. I have a WGS Blackhawk 50 which I like a lot. Sounds great with Therapy and Ghia. I also liked it with the Antidote. I was also considering Eminence's 1028K or their GA10-SC59 as possible alternatives to the Gold. There is only about a $50-$60 difference between the Eminence and Celestion. I don't want to be penny-wise and pound-foolish in my choice of rabbit holes.

I just played the Ghia into the Blackhawk at about 10-10;30 with my Heritage 535. Classic rock crunch at 7-8 on guitar. It seemed folks felt the 10" gold approximated the 12' gold. The Blackhawk is supposed to be WGS answer to the Gold. So I may just call Sweetwater and get a gold on the way.

I wasn't really moved by the Ghia until I heard John's with the gold. Wow that sounded great

My 1x10 Ghia came with the stock Red fang. I was using a tele (with vintage/standard output pickup) playing in a modern country band, so I was going for a specific tone. I was able to take the amp and fire it up in a room that seats over 100 people. (imagine really large conference room) After playing a few minutes, I just felt like something was missing. The fang seemed to lack a certain upper mid sparkle that I was looking for, as well as having an unpleasant lower mid push. It was also really loud. It seemed so loud that I was going to have to attenuate...when I didn't think I should have to attenuate an 18 watt amp.
I had heard good things about the 10" gold, so I ordered one, installed it and took the amp back to the same big room. I fired up the amp. It took three seconds...literally 3 seconds for me to realize it gave THAT tone I was looking for.
There are those here on the forum that like the Red Fang, but I'm not one of them.

Gold arrived on Saturday. While it wasn't total love at first, after about five hours the speaker is opening up and it's sounding great I'll be gigging it this weekend.

I haven't tried a gold yet, but I guess I need to after reading all the praise.
I took the Red Fang out of mine and put in an Eminence Cannabis Rex 10, trying to emphasize any American flavor. I really like the tone of it and got me exactly what I was looking for.

Gigged the little feller last night. What a killer little combo. I played the volume at about 10:30 and tone around 2-2:30. I was surprised at my tone setting because I've rarely ever pushed the tone past about 1:00. But the room was rather bright. Killer sound and feel all night. Used a Heritage 535 and G&L Legacy and tone controls on the guitars. I foresee this rig becoming quite the workhorse.

Thanks Buddy, but now I think there must be something wrong with my Ghia. I didn’t sound a bit like your clip. Do you think it could be the color? Mine is black.
