Hey Guys, My Maz 38 combo reverb started acting up at rehersal. Over all Volume on the amp started fading and it started clicking (like when a cell phone or modem is too close - if you’ve ever heard that sound). After moving all nearby tablets and phones, it was still happening. I then turned the reverb knob to 0 and my amp volume returned and the noise went away. 🤔 Ok, so, it’s the reverb circuit. I tapped on the tubes and my 3rd (smaller) tube from the left (looking at the rear of the amp) was slightly micophonic. I pulled the tube, it’s a 12AT7. Then reinstalled it. I’m assuming this is the Reverb tube. 🤷🏻♂️ Still doing th e same thing. 🤬 So then just for the heck of it, I jumpered my effects loop with a short pedalboard cable and ta-da, the verb is super quiet (actually sounds cleaner than I can remember) and it made it through a gig with no issues at all. 👍🏼 Question is, what the heck did I do, and should I still replace the 12AT7? Thanks.

Thanks. I use to have a Mesa that had a similar issue and fix. Cleaning the effects loop with deoxit was a more permanent solution. Worth a try...

I do have spare 12ax7’s and EL84’s,... the 12AT7, caught me off guard. 🤦🏻♂️ I did deoxit all the jacks (input and fx loop); love that stuff! 👍🏼 It seemed to help some. I just received 2 new 12AT7’s I ordered, so tomorrow, I’ll replace the old one (also remove jumper on fx loop) and report back. (Fingers crossed).

Well, found another issue,... Reverb tank itself has a problem. The rca connector on the input side is broken in two on the inside of the tank. The little round board is split around one of the rivets allowing the Jack to basically flop around. So, I ordered a new Accutronic tank. I thought about the MOD replacement, but I’ve had great experience with the Accutronic verbs... every since I was using the Rivera amps, I like how they sound. The MOD was about .80 cheaper, so I went with OEM unit.
