Man, between work, kid, wife, house, coaching said kid in baseball, etc., I have not had much time to lay down any ideas lately. Anyhow, here's something I was able to lay down this weekend while the Mrs. took the little panther on a rainy Sunday. All instruments are me except the drummer, which is Logan from Logic. Hopefully, as baseball season ends and more indoor weather comes, I'll be able to put up a few more. FWIW, everything except the solo is on the Ghia. soundcloud.com/the-opera-panther/suburbiasoundcloud.com/the-opera-panther/suburbia#t=0:00

Highly enjoyable! I’m really liking the nice clear chime over the grittier distorted work. I’m playing with some similar textures right now (scratch tracks are pedal-direct, real recordings will be with the usual cast of amp characters.)
Is your lead part direct with something like a Dwarfcraft mod pedal?

Is your lead part direct with something like a Dwarfcraft mod pedal? Hey, thanks for the listen! Actually, everything on there is amp>Suhr reactive load>Cabinet IRs. The solo at the end was my Collings I35lc>King of Tone>Drybell Vibe Machine>Swart AST. I think I used an IR of a 1x12 cab with a celestion blue in it. I added the delay and reverb in logic afterwards. Wait- did you mean the little fills in the verse? That’s my 12 string with a little delay through the Ghia. I applied the ring mod in Logic. Side note- I’ve been using the reactive load>cab IR setup for a few years now. Sounds great, and is super easy to get good sounds with. Also, my room is in the attic, and it was pouring when I recorded. Mics would have picked up the rain beating on the roof.

That's a really cool riff.
Curious if you replace words where the guitar is playing the chorus, and do you keep the guitar part if there are words.
Very nice recording and work!

I’m not sure exactly what you’re getting at with your question, but I’ve never written a lyric in my life, and I’m a pretty bad singer. This is “done” for me. I recorded and mixed the whole thing while my wife & son went shopping/to the movies. So, about 3.5 hours total. Would have liked another hack at the solo to fix a couple of the clams, but was kind of out of time, and generally happy enough to move on.

My first thought was "nice chime" also when the first guitar came in. I like that you work fast, get it down, and get it out. You need to send the family to see a trilogy or something and you'll have a full album by the time they get back.
You've got a good feel, groove, and interchange between instruments/parts. And the final lead guitar closes the tune nicely!
Very cool!

It's funny - if I didn't work fast, I'd never get anything done. Sometimes, I'll play a little game called "What can I get done in 2 hours?" (assuming I can get 2 hours!). Basically, creation for creation's sake. I'm not looking for perfection, just looking for something new, and relatively good sounding.

This is exactly what i started doing about 10 years ago.
creation for creations' sake without worrying about perfection. better to get something than never get anything.
i'll sit down with a few free hours, start by finding a nice drum groove on the drum machine and start laying down a riff, pull up another track, repeat. i rarely know where i'll end up and i always try to do it in one sitting but sometimes ideas take time to percolate. sometimes they end up being the germ for a song idea with the band.
George Carlin has a book called "Brain Droppings" which he refers to as little ideas and bits that fall out of his head. so i stole the concept and i refer to my recordings as Poodle Droppings.
i think i've posted a dozen of them here over the years.

Hey, thanks! I’ve heard and enjoyed your droppings as well!
This is pretty much what I do- create new, random stuff. I almost never know what I’m going to end up with when I start. The only thing I had planned was the Tele riff panned right. Everything else was created on the fly in response to that.
At this point in time, I don’t have time to play with others, and I’m not at all interested in a covers thing, so this is my outlet.
It’s the one reason I look forward to winter. More time to create!
