Hey lads -
I may be picking up an EMS in the fairly near future. It seems to precisely fit the bill of what I’m looking for. Came to this section to check out the current scuttle and it seems kind of quiet around here. Is the EMS still as enticing as it appears it was at launch from all the old threads or has it fallen out of favor in your amp lineup? Was all the gushing just honeymoon stuff or is this truly an excellent amp?
Also, with no loop, any recommended strategies for using modulation pedals out front? This would be my only amp without a loop. And which type of boost, OD or distortion are you using to really goose it? I also have what you might call a bit of a delay problem. Any delay pedals in particular that work really well with the EMS?
Thanks for your input gents!

No responses? I guess I was right - this place has been abandoned! You've all forced my hand - I'll have to figure this out for myself!!!

There have been a number of posts from August on efx loop for the EMS, tube rolling, etc. take a wander through the last few weeks of posts.
I don’t have an EMS - would love one but a 50w amp is way more than I can use.

Looks like you got it home safe, and the curly cable of love...wait you're the GearManDude Lol! Nah - I couldn’t do those boots! Home safe and sound. Sounds terrific! Really digging it - especially the low input setting, which was unexpected for me. But man - this thing is awesome! My fuzz pedals never sounded as good.

If you're coming to Mini-ZFest I have an EMS available to test. Also have the other Marshally type Z amps (SRZ65, Antidote, Remedy (normal and Super versions) and Maz 38) to run some comparisons against.

But, as you can see a couple posts up I pulled the trigger already. I’m totally digging it. It has a presence and top end I was missing in the DB4. Plus - so versatile! Still, I wish I could make it to Minni Z fest. One of these years I will!

Haven't played guitar since early summer. Too much outside activity going on. Where I left off was actually ordering a Bare Knuckle Piledriver for the Tele and a pile of strings to see if that would knock off some of the EMS' harsh edge. Probably swap the Eminence speakers back in as well. I don't think I gave them enough break-in time. Either way, the cabinet seems pretty tight sounding to me so looking for more resonance and thump.
Trying to get there without pedals has been a struggle. You mentioned a delay. I have good luck with the Earthquaker Dispatch Master, though it gets used with VERY subtle settings... just enough to thicken the sound a tad.
A current favorite is the BBE Sonic Stomp... let's me dial out some of the harsh upper mids and give the lows a bit of boost.
Be aware, I'm strictly a home player, haven't gigged since the early 90's, and probably have no business owning an amp as nice as the EMS. It will likely never get used to it's full potential, but it's fun pretending.

I love mine! It's a classic rock n roll amp to my ears! I have the 212 matching cab but i have been using a 412 Avatar cab with Heritage G12M's and it sounds just grrrreat! To be fair my Z cab speakers are not nearly broken in?

Yes it sure is! Just curious, what fuzz pedals are you using with the EMS?

Yes it sure is! Just curious, what fuzz pedals are you using with the EMS? For the EMS the Jam Eureka is doing the job for now. Not a big fan of how the Whoctahell sounds with it. In fact, I just picked up a couple Drive pedals today trying to figure out what’s going to go good with this amp! I am trying a Suhr Shiba and a Wampler dual fusion. The Wampler seems to like the EMS very much! I still need to find the exact right fuzz pedal to go with this amp though. My bet is that if I find something based on a fuzz face, I’ll be in good shape!

The EMS is an awesome amp. I don’t get why it isn’t hugely popular. Maybe people don’t associate Dr Z with Marshall? Too bad for them. He nailed it! It scratches many a Marshall tone itch for me.

Amp Sounds awesome to me! I ask about the fuzz pedal because it's been on my list a long time. If you pursuit it let me know the final outcome please. I'll get there eventually!

Might be some time. I’m pretty satisfied with the way I’m dialing the Eureka right now. I’ve got a couple other dirt pedals coming 1st. I can update you on how those go, if you like?
