Hi guys;’ I was having some noise issues with my JAZ- so I replaced all the tubes. Pretty sure I used the recommended ones, but I lost something! I Don’t know which tubes do what? To get a beefier sound with more headroom (closer to my Lux?) which tubes should I replace..and with what? Thanks so much DickieGarrett@gmail.com

My configuration for J.J.Cale inspired Blues/Country tone on the Jaz 20/40 2x10": V1: Mullard 12AX7, V2: NOS General Electric Military Grade 12AX7, V3: NOS Sylvania Military Grade 12AT7, V4: Tung Sol 12AX7, V5: NOS General Electric Military Grade 12AX7, V6: Sovtek 12AX7LPS, V7-10: Tung Sol 5881 (matched quad) Works great for me. While the original configuration is a good allround rock tone, I prefer this for a great thick blues tone more on the clean side.

Welcome to the Forum! A lot of great people and information here! The JAZ is a great amp - very versatile and great for some blues tones.

Just another thing I like to add when it comes to a beefy clean tone. I'm a guitar maniac and own around 100 guitars. So I played the Jaz in lots of different configurations. My experience is the Jaz works best with pickups in the range 8-10 Kohms. When it comes to vintage single coils in the typical 5-6 Kohms range I always feel the input of the Jaz could be a touch hotter. When I play Tele/Strat/Jazzmaster I always use a little clean booster in front to bring the input to the right level. Just my experience, maybe worth a try before swapping speakers or tubes.

Yep, 5881s in the power section and maybe a little heat on the input if needed will definitely do it. If not, you might consider an Ampeg SVT CL-300. But, at nearly 100lbs you’ll also need a strong, burly but somehow good looking woman to help carry it around!
