There is actually quite a bit of difference between the 2 even though they were both meant to give Joe Walsh a "replacement for the '59 Tweed Bandmaster 3x10 Combo" that Joe gave to Pete Townsend and regretted soon after. Here are some of the differences:
Super Z Z Master
Tone Stack V T M B MV and Cut V1 (bright channel) V2 (Normal channel) B T Presence Inputs 2 (High and Low) 1
Power 38 Watts 30 Watts
Speakers Dr. Z Std 10" Specially Designed 10"
Power Tubes 4 EL84s 2 5881s
PT ?? 1848 Triad Output Transformer
Weight About 70 pounds 3x10 Ultra light Combo - 42 pounds
Availability Rare - only 11 made Available at Sweetwaters
Soundwise - they are both in the '59 Tweed Bandmaster camp but that's where the similarities end. The Z Master is far more 3D, Swirling sound than the Super Z. Don't get me wrong, the Super Z sounds great, but there is just something about the Z Master that takes it to a new level. Also, with the 2 blendable volumes, the Z Master has more tones at your finger tips.
FYI - I have both amps. My Super Z was used by Joe Walsh (serial # is "Joe Walsh") and my Z Master is Prototype #1.

The Z-master is huge 3D like surround sound tone no need for reverb just pure tone and articulation of the notes. Not sure about the super Z. I have had several of the docs amps over the years and they all are very good but there is something special about the Z-Master.

Oh and I have instructed my daughter to take out the speakers and fold my body into this cab when I'm no longer here! I know sick but this is the greatest amp on this planet!

djcakadave so what you’re saying is that there’s no chance you’d ever sell that Z Master to a feller needing therapy? Lol! I’m jealous of both of these amps, but mostly the fact that I’d love to get a z master in my house. With the announcement of some new Zs, I now have no clue what will be next.

HA, I think Mike meant were did you find the S/N. The S/N is stamped on the chassis back panel. Hard to see because of the unique chassis orientation of the Z Master. Z
