This is pretty much the only acoustic I’ve truely craved since I was a kid. I decided to jump right in and order one...it should be here Friday!! My grandpa had a 60’s Bird when I was growing up and I learned to play on it. Nobody in the family knows what happened to that guitar after he passed away about 20 years ago. I know this new one won’t hold a candle to the old one, but maybe I can stop dreaming about a hummingbird now. Heritage cherry burst normally is not my choice of finish (I like tobacco burst) but that’s the color his was. Plus, when I think of a Hummingbird that’s the color that pops in my head. These pics are the actual guitar I’ll be getting. Sweetwater is the best! I love how they photograph your guitar before shipping.

Very cool looking guitar and great back story! You'd think if I wrote a song called "Hummingbird Blues", I'd have a Hummingbird. Also, I don't. But, here's some good hummingbird mojo for you while you're waiting. My sister-in-law drew this up for me as a present. Enjoy that guitar!

Love the Hummingbird--Congrats, Shane! I recently went the J-45 route, but man I'll tell you it was tough to keep my eyes (and hands!) off the Hummingbirds and Doves. The Hummingbird is truly iconic, I believe.

Nice Shane..... love that reversed belly bridge...and the fact it doesn’t have those adjustable screws like some did in the 60’s.
Looking forward to your comparison from your Granddaddy’s.
Enjoy!~

I’m loving this guitar! Best sounding acoustic I’ve ever played, not the loudest but sweetest. It has a hollow resonant tone that likes to sit in the middle of the frequency spectrum.
I’m thinking about a pro set up but I’m kind of scared to do it because I want to keep every bit of tone that I’m getting at the moment. Actually, just the action I think. It’s exactly 3mm from the bottom of the low E string to the top of the twelfth fret. My neck is between .008 and .010 in relief.
I haven’t had much experience with acoustic guitar specs as far as what’s acceptable or normal and what’s not. Do these specs seem normal?

If there's no discernible issues and it feels good, I'd wait to see if any issues pop up in the first year and let your hands adjust to playing the action the way it is and then consider a set up.
It's a beauty. My personal preference would be for a J-45 but i'd "settle" for a Hummingbird. Enjoy!

String height is usually measured in 64ths of an inch. I like a pretty low action: 5/64 on the low E....4/64 on the high E. From what little I know, bluegrass players like it a little bit higher.
Maybe something like this would help:
Oh..that's a great lookin' geetar. Post more pics
