Haven't seen it yet but hoping to get thru the hefty 2 hours 22 minutes over the weekend.
a word to the uninitiated... never take Dylan at his word.

I got started on it last night and plan to continue over the weekend. It's interesting, but I'm not sure I "like" it. At least, not yet. Some fine renditions by Dylan and his band of his classic tunes. I suppose at the time it made sense for him to have white makeup glopped on his face...

John... in the words of Lowell Fulson, "Reconsider Baby". if i can use a artillery metaphor.... the fake stuff is insignificant and merely a "sabot" used to stabilize and fill out the story in order to deliver the real substance, which is the performances from the tour. The performances are so compelling. if you're a Dylan fan, i would recommend 1000%... do not miss this.

Some quotes to help people get over the fake stuff....
Both are from Werner Herzog on "Truth and Fact in Documentary Cinema"
"There are deeper strata of truth in cinema, and there is such a thing as poetic, ecstatic truth. It is mysterious and elusive, and can be reached only through fabrication and imagination and stylization."
"Michelangelo: Taking a good look at his statue of the Pietà, we notice that Jesus taken from the cross is a man of 33, but his mother is only 17. Does Michelangelo lie to us? Does he mislead us? Does he defraud us? He just shows us the innermost truth about the Man of Sorrows, and his mother, the Virgin."

If you've got a problem with the "fake stuff," you've got a problem with Dylan. He's been fictionalizing himself since the day he left Hibbing, if not before.
