I feel like I've asked this question before but was never really answered. I'm just wondering how the new Maz 38 Sr Mkii behaves in 1/2 power. Is the circuit and tone stack basically the same as the Maz 18 jr? If so, what an option.

I would think they would be very close as the preamp design is the same for both.

Here is a comment I received for this same question.
"Because it is a different transformer, the half power mode isn't EXACTLY like a MAZ 18, there is the component of the larger output transformer. So you will get slightly more headroom and punch in half power than you would get with a stand alone MAZ 18. But it does lower the headroom and allow for earlier saturation and compression."

Thanks so much! This is exactly what I was looking for. I actually have both a Maz 18 Mkii combo and Maz 38mkii Head with half switch. I have spent weeks debating putting ten head in the combo and the 18 in the head, and was weighing the pros and cons. They sound really close, but the transformer makes total sense.
