If running an external cab (8 ohm) with the ZPlus and you could run the internal speaker (also 8 ohm) in parallel with the external at 4 ohms or in series at 16 ohms, which would be preferred? I seem to recall some opinion (I think on a different Z amp) that using more of the tranny windings (i.e., 16 ohms) would be good since the tranny is such a high quality unit.
Thoughts?

I'm finding that I generally like the higher ohm output with EZG-50. Not sure if it's the amp or the speakers but I think I hear more high end and harmonic richness with 16 ohm output using 4x10 (16 ohm speakers) wired series-parallel for 16 ohms compared to parallel wiring for 4 ohms.

With the speakers in series, you add the inductances together. The equations for inductors in series or parallel are the same as those for resistors. So adding the two 8 ohm speakers in series will present the amp with 16 ohms impedance, and double the inductance (assuming the two speakers have the same specs) than running them in parallel, which gives 4 ohms and half the inductance. The question seems to be whether the output transformer has proportionally the same change in inductance going from the 4 ohm to the 16 ohm tap. If I've got it wrong, somebody please clarify it for me. The only way to find out is to try it. I've heard the same thing about higher (series) loads. Try it and let us know what you think!

So as usual Doc’s customer service is outstanding. As I’ve posted elsewhere, I have a red/tan 2x10 that I got with my Z28. I’ve wanted a 1x12 to go with the Z28 and more specifically to use with my ZPlus.
Sheree hooked me up with a 1x12 baffle, with ZW cloth, black piping and a black “Z” so it matches my ZPlus! I also bought a Z12 to compliment the Blue in the ZPlus and to try on the Z28.
So now I’ll have to experiment with series and parallel hookups to see what the difference is between 4 ohms and 16 ohms output on the ZPlus.

So the new 1x12 baffle and Z12 arrived yesterday and I installed them in my 2x10 extension cab. First, Sheree and the gang shipped FAST! The stuff was packed and cushioned to survive the Zombie apocalypse. Installation couldn’t be easier. Remove the back of the old cabinet, remove the speakers, unscrew the baffle. Screw in the new baffle, mount the speaker, put the back back on. They even included hook up wire and 1/4" jack - I had plenty from the old 2x10 hookup, but how nice is that? So the Zplus with its new 1x12 looks great. And it sounds great and as I had hoped - the Blue in the combo provides the sparkle and chime, and Z12 below provides balance and more lower mids and bass. You need to be standing a good 6’ or so away to get the full mix, and it’s great. It’s hooked up in parallel at 4 ohms now - I need to get a series Y cable to see how it sounds at 16ohms. I’ve started playing around with diming the Cut as mentioned in another forum and reducing Treble - makes a new and interesting tone - more “air” to the tone without biting. Here’s a pic (you can see the "before" in my avatar) - treble’s at 1:00, mid at 2:30, bass 11:00, and Cut at 3:00

I run in parallel with The Happy Cab. I need to try it in series.

Let us know how series sounds Yessir, I will. Played it briefly as storms are moving in . Had it on switched on full power. Sounded very full and open. Very musical.
