I've had this amp about 3 weeks now and I just can't get over how fun and satisfying it is to plug into. I literarily had the thing on all day yesterday. The fullness....the 3 dimensional sound. It's spongy yet has that Z quickness. Amazing.
At first I liked it best with single coils. Now, after more time, double coils are crazy good too. My SoCo with Throbak's is ear candy.
I loved it at first strum.....then I had some second thoughts because I have two other great tweed amps. But this one definitely has something special goin on.
A few more are out in the wild now and several forum members....but not much chatter....except for rhinoman, randy and myself. That is puzzling me. Oh well....all I know is I am thrilled with this amp. And it keeps sounding better and better.
I ordered my Studio Slips cover yesterday.
Thanks again Doc!....and Joe~

It’s so good it’s all I need. It’s like the Z-Masterpiece!

I'm really enjoying my Z-Master - one of the best tones of any of my amps. It's got a great swirling sound. The amp can go from clean to (semi) mean. Even though my Z-Master is a little bigger than the production Z-Masters, I've got it sitting in my living room so I can pick up my guitar and play at any time. It sounds great even at home levels. I was using humbuckers but then decided to try to give my EC Strat a play through it. What an amazing sound on the clean "channel"! The humbucker has been relegated to the back room. If you're sitting on the fence I suggest that you give it a try - you won't be disappointed.

How would you compare the Z-Master to the Wreck, Mark? Which would you keep, if you could only keep ome?

How would you compare the Z-Master to the Wreck, Mark? Which would you keep, if you could only keep one? Oh man Jon.... That's tough. Both questions. Last one first. I own a Z-Master. I sold my last Z Wreck a few months ago. ( My 4th one....Yes...I have it too!) And for my needs, I prefer the Z-Master. And that's saying a lot. I LOVE the Z-Wreck! As far as comparisons...They have similarities...yet are way different. Either could be desert island amps for some people.... Both 30 watts. But I feel the Z Wreck can be louder and punchier. Especially with more than one 12". It also has bigger iron. Both have the same style cab ( Comparing the Z-Wreck combo only ), so both are very 3 dimensional. Both have resonant cab's. Though the Z-Master is 11 lbs lighter. And that's a big deal at my age! And the Z-Master has THREE speakers so that adds to the 3D sound and the low end is so satisfying. Especially playing by yourself. If playing with a group you can always roll the bass back for more punch & cut. The Z-Wreck has plenty of low end, but it's just not the same. The 3 speaker configuration works in two ways as I see it. The two on the bottom add the bass coupling with the floor. ( As Roscoe says, but it on the floor and let it ROAR!) and the top speaker gives sparkle and clarity to the mix. Especially sitting or standing close to it. PLUS the vent in the top lets plenty of sound out. The feel of the Z-Master is looser, but not too loose. It's Dr Z trick to the tweed sound & feel. The Z-Wreck sounds great at low volumes, especially with a Brake-Lite. ( Never tried the half power model) , but the Z-Master sounds better at lower volumes. To my ears. And both sound even better CRANKED! I guess it's really an American tweed thing vs a British VOXy thing. Hope that helps~ Any other specific differences, I'll take a stab at.

Nice post Mark! I've tried to go easy on the chatter because I really don't want to come across as "That guy" that buys an amp and suddenly just can't shut up about it! Haha..
Really, there are not enough good things to say about the amp. It's funny, it literally took me years to figure out how to really get Dr Z amps to work for me. To approach them in a way with the guitar that suddenly had them make sense in a way that lead me to selling off my other amps.....and then along comes the Z-Master and it's the perfect marriage between the Dr Z sound that I've come to really need and the classic Fender tweed sound that I've loved forever.
The Z-Master checks every possible box for me when it comes to guitar amplification. It's an amp that I've found works equally well at any volume and an amp where the sound of the guitar straight in has been impossible to improve in any way (for me) with the pedals that I've relied on in the past to get me "there" with other amps. It's a Tele partner of the highest order.
I owned a Z-Wreck and I think it's the grail of that style amp. The good Doctor has now worked that same magic with the classic tweed sound and has created the quintessential version of that iconic sound.
Tonight will be the first time I plug in my new Z-Verb into the Z-Master. It's going to be a great night!

I'm gong to FINALLY gig mine this Saturday. Nice ole restored historic theater (every city has one). Will be using house sound, so no IEM's.....I'll be hearing the real amp in my one good ear! Can't wait to report back.

Wow what a Rich, Warm , and Delicate tone. Sounds excellent , great playing thanks for sharing. It really demonstrates the Z Masters ability to accurately track , which must be felt/played to truly appreciate. Z

It really demonstrates the Z Masters ability to accurately track , which must be felt/played to truly appreciate. Z The last line is the thing I find to be the most true with the Z-Master. I think the quality of sound in the clip is one of the best I've managed and it's still just a Zoom hand held recorder lying on the floor in front of the amp while I play over a simple loop I made for backing. ALL of those things compromise the sound and I still think that it sounds really really nice. It's impossible to communicate how this all sounded in the room...it's just totally a dream amp and one anyone should try if they're looking for the ultimate tweed experience......
