Hi everyone!
I've got a question that I'm hoping Therapy users can help answer.
I love telecasters and tweed amps. I also appreciate the Dr Z build quality, and I'd like to have an amp in head format. I'm also a long time Z-Verb user, I bought an early unit about 9 years ago and I've been using it since. Sonically, I like the way it complements my tweed amps.
For these reasons I think the Therapy looks intriguing. I guess my question is whether it's any good for playing at home, which is where I do most of my playing. How good is the master volume, really? Could you really play this amp at bedroom volumes, and does that compromise the tone? How loud do you have to play to sound "good"?
For more background, I consider 35 watts to be a lot. I owned a 40 watt Blackface Vibrolux for years, and never got much out of it until I tried it with an air brake. At home I can crank up my 10 watt Harvard with a 96.5 db 10" speaker and I consider that a comfortable volume. I also have an 18 watt tweed deluxe which I feel is a touch too loud when using an efficient (~100 db) speaker. I don't use pedals, but I like to turn up the amp and get an edge of breakup sound and use my right hand technique to go from clean to breakup. I hear that the Therapy is good for that, just wondering if I'd be comfortable at home.
Ideally I'd visit a shop and try it for myself, but I haven't found one nearby.
Thanks!

I’ve got a therapy running into a 2x12 with a V30 and H30. I’ve used a brake lite with the master at 10 and volume at 6-7 for full on grind and that’s great. I also disengage the brake lite and run the master at 2-3. Still sounds very good but not as “ballsy” of course. This is in my music room - a 10x12 room off the kitchen just down from the den. Folks can still watch TV in the den as long as they turn it up a bit 😁

I run my Therapy Master at 5 or better at all times,no matter how dirty it is-In my head I view it as a one volume amp,and the master is out of the equation.when I know I'm gonna play clean,I dime the master and treat the volume as the only volume knob.when getting dirty on the volume-5 or better,I back off to about 6-7 on the master to give my neighbors a break

The master volume works great on the Therapy. I run my amp thru a V30 loaded 2x12 and set my pre amp section how I want it and use the master volume to control my over all volume depending on if I am playing with a drummer or not. I do prefer the sound if my amp with the master above 9 or 10 o'clock though. The amp feels a little better. If I was doing something that I needed a tone and feel for I would just add a brake on the back end and use that to reduce the volume if needed. Overall, the master volumes on the Z amps are great and all sound really good. My 2 cents, Todd

How good is the Therapy master volume? It’s the best I’ve ever used.

Totally agree with the above, it’s killer. I keep wanting to lash up the Air Brake or Rock Crusher attenuator to it but when I crank up the gain the thought leaves me. One of these days though

I unfortunately no longer own a Therapy (bad decision...) but I will also echo all comments above. The MV, is not just good, it's the best I had tried of any amps I owned in the last 20 years. I had an attenuator, but to me the MV was a better solution for playing at home. Yes the amp does sound better with MV above 9 or 10 O'clock, but it is still very usable under that. Also note that you can play around with tubes in this amp, for a bit of a different feel and also for some more gain/volume fine tuning. It's one fine amp
