Howdy!
Well, after acquiring a year 2000 SRZ65, my search for a little history on it keeps spawning more questions. This question seems to cross the boundary to all the Doc's amps, so, for lack of a better spot Ill post it here.
My SRZ65 is a year 2000 (by sn, K1004). The circuit board is marked "#4 of 50", yet the chassis is marked Dec/2000 (can't remember the day). Peek at my post in the SRZ65 if you want to see the amp & gut shot of it.
I can't see the "#4 of 50" related to the build number in that year with a chassis marked in December. Unless it's an onslaught to build these in less than 30 days, before year end 2000 -and- chassis is already stamped for year 2000 sn.
This amp is 7 years prior to the numbered LE model than came out in 2007. However it is out 10 years after the first SRZ of 1990. Could this have been a 10 year anniversary run for the SRZ? So, the curiosity, on my part, is what does the '#4 of 50' mean in regard to this amp. Would it be..."I'm making 50 SRZ 65's this year?" ...or, "I'm making a special run of 50?" I'm been inside a few Z amps for bias checks & repair, but this is the first I've seen where the circuit board is actually marked. It's got my curiosity up for sure. Of the 7-8 Z's I've had on my bench none had the circuit board marked like this. (But, then again...all were newer models than this one, too.)
Hmmm, it would be so cool to see the Doc write a book about now. Detailing some cool historical facts before they're gone.
Now, I had received a couple emails back & forth from Doc, but he only commented he intended on 50 and stopped at 35...however, I thought that just applied to the LE model? Am I confused or is this another run for the year 2000?
Cheers & Happy Jamming!
