Up early so I thought I'd swap a couple of speakers in two of my 2x12 cabs.
Blonde Bad Cat Cab - Before = Bad Cat V30 and Weber 12A150W After = Alnico Tone Tubby Red and Weber 12A150W
Home-made solid pine cab (my maiden voyage on doing finger joints) - Before = Alnico Tone Tubby Red and Alnico Weber California After = Bad Cat V30 and Alnico Weber California
I'll report back after I have some playing time with them. Pretty much the last stop for the V30. If it doesn't pair up well with the Cali, It goes in the garage with its brother until I decide to sell the BC cab they came in. All I really wanted was the cab when I bought it, as the blonde tolex matches my blonde Z-28 almost perfectly.

I have a 2 x 12 with a pair of well broken in V30's that I LOVE. Sounds amazing with my Therapy and even more amazing with Tele through that Therapy!!

I think I'm set for my Therapy cab. After a bunch of trial runs, including all combinations of the V30 pair that came with the Bad Cat cab, the Top Hat 2x12 with a Gold and C-Rex is my clear favorite. I judge everything by the cleans these days which probably makes any reviews I do of the speaker combinations pretty useless for 99% of the folks here who are chasing the edge of breakup tones.

So how do you like the Weber 12A150W? I have a Weber 10F150T in a Princeton Reverb and it is a fabulous sounding speaker.

I like it. The W cone adds a bit more top end to the regular 12A150.

Well, paint me with spots and call me a leopard!! Looks like the V-30 has avoided the long dark trip to spider city for a while longer after all. I've worked through my practice song book twice now, once with a Strat and once with a Jaguar. The V-30 + Weber Cali pine cab was hooked to the normal channel of my 61 Brown Super. The speaker combo sounds surprisingly good. Who wooda thunk a V-30 and JBL copy would blend well together? Several guitars and amps left to try before I pass final judgement but I'm pleasantly surprised so far.
The usual caveat that this was 100% clean with a bit of reverb and trem. Sinatra lounge lizard standards, jazz standards, jazz versions of Beatles songs, some Bossa Nova, Righteous Bros, a Surf medley, a couple of jazzy SRV tunes, a couple of the lighter Zep songs, etc.
I have not tried the Bad Cat cab with the TT + 12A150 yet but that was the one I figured might be a good pairing.
I won't re-post to this thread again for future reports, I'll just edit this post so it doesn't keep bumping to the top.
*************************************** First update 3-24-19 - Heard the first instance of the famous V-30 "honkiness" with my P-90 tele but I was able to dial most of it out. Funny, it didn't show up playing slide but it was pretty present without the slide. Still working through the guitars using the brown Super. I'll be getting to the HB hollow bodies in a few weeks. Still have not tried the TT + 12A150 cab.
Second update 5-26-19 - I finally worked through my gear rotation and got to the TT Red + Weber 12A150-W cab with the Z-28. It didn't work out too well. There was some kind of competing thing going on with the same frequencies that made for some unpleasant overtones with both a strat and tele. Pulled the Weber this AM and replaced it with a Bad Cat proprietary Celestion. Based on my research, it is supposedly a V-30 frame that was "tweaked" by\for Bad Cat. Whatever. Immediate improvement. It's not going to knock the Gold + C-Rex out of the top spot but it's a big improvement over the TT + Weber. More later if I find anything worth posting after a bit more playing with different guitars.

By all means, feel free to add posts to bring it to the top - it's not like you're adding useless info or something. I'd like to know when you try something new and like it better (or worse, for that matter).

I'd like to know when you try something new and like it better (or worse, for that matter). I appreciate your comments but after many years on this forum, I realize that my tone targets are quite different from most of the folks here (not totally useless, but of limited use for this audience). I figure if I now have a reasonably descriptive thread title, folks looking at the speakers and cabs section can reference my experience without it being in their face at the top of the list every now and then. I'm not trying to boost my post stats. Since I'm posting anyway to respond to your nice comments, I'll say that I've now gone through about half of the practice song book with a tele (same amp) and the speaker combo is still holding up.

Bringing this to the top one last time for the final evaluation results. After a bunch of hours with various guitars, the winner 2x12 combinations are: Gold and C-Rex with the Therapy Bad Cat tweaked V-30 and the Tone Tubby Red alnico with the Z-28 Bad Cat tweaked V-30 and the Weber Cali alnico with either the 61 Super or the 64 Bandmaster No surprise that I like the alnico and ceramic combinations. They have been my preference for many years. I was surprised that both of the Bad Cat V-30's made the final cut. I do play all the amps with all the cabs for kicks but the above combinations are my current favorites. Dr Frankenspeaker's lab now closed for a while. A picture of the three cabs, just because.
