Hey everyone, I've been a bit of a lurker around here for a number of years. Heck, I haven't even bought anything major guitar related in the past seven years - until now. I've always lusted for a 'Ray, but never got the chance to jump on one. I almost pulled the trigger on a 2x12 that came up a couple weeks back, but ended up passing on it. There was a Red/Tan head for sale semi-locally (still is, actually), but something in the back of my head told me to wait. Enter Randy (randalp3000). I just so happened to hop on and see his post selling his 'Ray, and the price was right. Sent him a message, and two days later (plus a weekend due to the UPS guy running four hours late and missing this night shift worker) this little girl showed up: I couldn't wait until I got home from picking it up at the depot to get pictures, so here are the complimentary front-seat-of-my-truck pictures: If it weren't for the two daylight workers in the house, I'd be testing her out right now. Just gives me something to look forward to in the morning. Next step is to get the 'Ray its very own Z cab. Just need to figure out if I want a 2x12, 1x12, or both...

That is awesome! You are truly in for a lifetime of glorious tones. I saw that he was selling that one as well, and had considered picking it up myself. Congratulations on the buy! I’m sure you’re going to love it. FWIW, yours rolled off the line right after mine - probably put together by all the same hands!

Congratulations....now consider pairing it up with something from the blue/gold camp. These speakers seem to be a big hit with the ray.

Congrats Charlie! It's a great amp - used to be mine. Only reason I sold it was because I found Brad Paisley's #001 on Ebay one Sunday morning and immediately hit the buy it now button.

Appreciate the kind words and warm welcome everyone! Played it some through an older speaker I had today, and I was liking what I was hearing. Once I get either two blues or a blue/gold, I'm sure I'll be in tone heaven! If you're ever in my neighborhood, we'll see if we can't make that happen! FWIW, yours rolled off the line right after mine - probably put together by all the same hands! Hot dog! One day we'll have to get a family reunion together of the 'Rays! Congrats Charlie! Thank you Mike, don't blame you on that at all - be sure to keep a hold on that one for a while! I did find it a bit amusing that the last amp I bought was from you, and now this one just so happened to have been yours at one point as well!

I think most of the used Zs out there once belonged to me! I used to wonder how Curt could buy and sell so many Zs - now I know!!

Welcome Charlie. We had a Charlie lurker at one of the Z Fest but I seriously doubt it was you Congratulations on a fine fine amp. The Ray is also one of my favorite amps. My speaker recommendation goes against the grain for many but is still my top pairing with the Ray. A 1x12 Weber 50w Alnico Blue Dog. For my purposes, rock/blues/top 40, the speaker is; darker (tames the highs), inefficient(tames the volume) and has a thick chewy midrange (sweet). As crazy as it might sound that rig reminds me of my old Super Reverb which is long gone so I didn't compare side by side. That pairing has nice scooped mids, grand piano like low end thud factor and beautiful chimey highs, like my Super Reverb. That or a couple old greenbacks makes me smile. Hope you get many years of blissful tone with your new Stingray if not PM me!!!

I always wanted to make a Z Fest, never did swing it though.
The 'Ray seems to have brought out an entire different side of my guitar - the tone and sustain is absurd now! Believe it or not I seemed to have lost some treble in my tele after playing around with some pickups - the 'Ray definitely helped get them back though!
Unfortunately my computer went down earlier last week, so I've been getting things ordered/situated for redoing part of the water loop in it - also has kept me from playing and pushed back getting a proper speaker/cab for the amp.
