Did the patient get operated on? Tube swap and out? Yes it returned with a faulty Celestion H 30. There was a chip of metal in the Voice Coil gap. This chip worked its way from under the spider , to inside the gap. Was undetectable here during QA test, but chip moved , due to transport to a bad spot. Been curiously following this thread wondering what would be the culprit . Never thought about it being this speaker. But I am going to add it to my list of troubleshooting thoughts if anything ever happens to any of my Z‘s

That's got to be a pretty rare occurrence to have a chip of metal under the spider in the first place...It would have had to have gotten there at Eminence, probably before the magnet was charged. Does anybody know the sequence that Eminence would follow in building a speaker?

And guessing once it settled in the right spot, speaker no worky. Wow. Never would have thought about that.

My first Z amp was a MAZ (38) and I also had a failure of the installed Celestion G12H30. The store offered to install a good speaker and I chose to keep the amp. One of the best decisions I ever made. I have owned almost 100 different amps. I'll be a Z guy till I die.
