Well the amp has a nasty hum coming from the speaker, but goes away when I remove the reverb pre amp tube. Also now the led isn't working. Kinda goes in and out. So we can rule out it being blown. Im thinking about sending it in for repair because I know I love the amp, other than the hum, and led going in and out. So any info on turnaround time and anything else would be much obliged. - blane

Welcome to the Forum - a lot of great people and information here. Turnaround from Dr. Z is usually pretty fast. You can contact Don at repairs@drzamps.com or you can call him here: (216) 475-1962.
Good luck!

I have extras, I could mail you one if you want to try it. Private message me you address if you want a bulb. Todd

Todd I did take it to a good local amp builder and we tried a few different proper reverb pre amp tubes with no fix. Everything looked perfect inside, aside from slightly bent chassis from the mishandling during shipping 😑. Also with the bulb going in and out intermittently, I don't think a bulb is the issue. That's very kind of you to offer to send me these parts to fix this. The after I told the local tech the led going in and out, he suggested I get a refund, but I'd just find another 1 and I'm not rich so honestly the most economical route will be to pay Dr.Z to service it.

Used amp I’m guessing? If new it’s a warranty and/or carrier claim. If used, I’d send it to Doc for repairs.

Ohhhh, I'm sorry, I missed the bent chassis part of this. Well nonetheless, thank you so much for your input. I appreciate it. The tech took a broad soft brass punch and tapped it back to shape fairly easily, and it sits perfectly in the cabinet now. So cosmetically it looks to be perfect.

Yeah I'm just hoping sending the chassis off and repairs won't break the bank. I just really want it to stop buzzing so I can enjoy that fat american tone without cringing between notes!!!

Mine had buzz fron a rough shipment. And it was just the volume pot nut came loose. Which cause a ground hum/ buzz. Try tightening all the pots and anything connected to the chassis. It solved my issue. I did tighten everything attached to the chassis. It worked for me. And could be your problem.

If you want more tips on maintenance-type work, here's a video Z made.
Hope you get your amp in full working order. The Lux is really spectacular.

I'll try that when I pull the chassis out before I ship in for service, just in case. I was actually reading your thread last night and thought we had similar symptoms. Thanks! Great amp, I'm sure it's an easy fix. I just don't know anything about maintenance!

Most people call it satan's b-hole if that tells you anything in regards to the humidity. So definitely +1 on that video recommendation. I'll be adding those tips to my routine. Thank you

Hope you get it worked out sooner than later, as you already know it's a fabulous sounding tone machine. If you do have to send it in, like others have mentioned, the Z shop will get it right and back to you on know time.

I've got backup options so it's all good luckily. Just hope I don't get called back after they get it in with him saying repairs are gonna be 300+$. I filed a damage claim with reverb so we will see.

Hoping for the best for your Z- Lux and your wallet! You defiantly deserve for this to be made right if damage resulted during delivery.

I had a couple of used Blues get damaged in shipping and Reverb made it right inside of a week. I promptly ordered two more with no problems.

Something else to check is if the reverb tank cables are pinched tight and making good contact. Try pulling them out and making sure the outer "fingers" of the RCA jack are tight. Also, the Z-Lux needs a good quality NOS 6201 reverb driver tube in it. Lower quality 12AT7 tubes can cause hum, as can a non-shielded footswitch cable.

I filed a claim with fedex for the mishandling and reverb is aware so we shall see. But you're right. It should be made right. I feel confident they'll own up to it.

Thanks I'm going to double check the rca cables in the morning before I ship it out for service. There's a 12at7 sovtek in there in now.. but it's soo bad that I'm not sure if that's the case, but though to know for sure. I'll let you know if those rca cables look ok.

My Z-Lux is really sensitive to that particular tube; not only for noise but for quality of tone. I've got a slew of 12AT7 and 6201 tubes and it really makes a difference. Since your amp took a wallop in shipment I think it's really important to make sure everything...jacks, pots, transformers...anything that could get loose...is good and tight. I bought a 37 year old amp last month and the reverb was noisy, hummed, and didn't work. Guess what? Loose, dirty RCA cables and loose grounds. I cleaned them up and tightened everything down and it all came back to life just like it should sound. A loose ground will cause more grief in an amp than you could ever imagine. Hope it helps.

After reading this.. I went and looked at every single component.. sure enough, it looks like the transformer is sagging down. The washers are bent as well. This is on the same side where the chassis was bent slightly. I think it could be this judging from your tip. And could be a combination of verb driver as well. I'll try and post a pic this afternoon if the transformer not making full contact to the chassis. Im definitely green when it comes to amps though so who knows. Calling don here in a few.
