Trying something different, and pulled the trigger on an RX/ES. Any tips and tricks? Playing a mix of modern country and rock.

It sounds great with a 1x12 Gold. Tracii Guns used 4 combos along with 1x12 cabs under them - the sound of rock and roll for sure!

I’ve only owned an RXJR for about a year or two, but have learned so much about it by reading the forums here. I’d say check out the RX JR threads as well. Any insights there would apply here, tonally speaking.
Id say you probably want to look into attenuation. Lots of great tones to be had in the RX but the JR has a very handy MAster Volume. I’d imagine the ES is just stupid loud by the time it starts breaking up. Maybe that’s your thing! I find the JR to be quite loud though and it’s half the power.
The overdose is fun. There a couple threads here about making a shorted cable connector if you want to run it always on.
Also the Bass and treble response are unbelievable. Don’t be surprised if you turn them down to around 9 o clock, or less.
Lastly, I’ve found the Winged C ef86 to have a unique voice. It’s a very clean tube with a full midrange. If you’re looking for less dirt and more mids give that a try. Otherwise most other NOS ef86 glass will have a nice warm grit to it, with a more scooped tone.

It's with the Dr. currently to have the master volume added. It needs to be able to gig clubs, and from my research the PPIV master volume add seems a better option than an attenuator.

It's a great PPI Master Volume! Maybe mine is unique but there is very little volume change between Noon and Full on the pot. Most of the change is in the first half of the knob. Once you hit half way its almost full on in terms of output. Maybe it has something to do with the volume pot taper (linear vs log)? Either way, its fantastic. I don't find myself using the master much on the JR, but its great when I do need it. I'd imagine it will come in quite handy on the ES.
As far as speakers...There are a few unanimous favorites. The Greenback M style is stock and is the best pairing. If you are going 1x12, it would need to be the Gold (for more Vox tones) and Creamback 65 (for more Marshall rock tones). I run mine through a 2x12 with blue and g12h-30 for the best of both. Also have a creamback and greenback that pair very nicely. If you are venturing outside of Celestion, the Scumback M75 is HIGHLY regarding, and there is another guy on here (Jason) who swears by the Weber Grey Wolf.

I use mine with an Air Brake. Currently using a 2x10 shorty with Dr Z Speakers. I have a Dr Z 4x10 that sounds amazing but wreaks havoc with the drummer. Typically run the volume at 1 O'clock and use the guitar volume to adjust drive. I don't usually use the Overdose, although it adds a lot of hair and growl to the tone, in addition to a pretty big boost.
Tone controls are very responsive.
My 3 main pedals. Wampler Compressor Wampler Paisley Drive Strymon Flint
