Hi again all, my first z (cure) came in the mail the other day and it sounds pretty darn sweet. The control set is excellent and the tone is awesome.
The only thing I don't particularly care for is the speaker. It's a great american voiced speaker, but even in my american-type amps I prefer British speakers.
I plugged the z into my celestion blue and man, did that thing sound great. Ive read some people have issues with the blue flubbin out with the cure, but at my volume levels it's a non issue. But the blue is reserved for my marshall build, so I ordered a used greenback for the cure.
I read an analogy someone made about the greenback that said something like "there are tons of unique and interesting speakers out there, but the greenback feels like coming back to your hometown after being away for years" and for me this is true. The greenback has always been "home" to me so i'm going to try it in the cure.
Has anybody else tried other speakers in the cure, maybe some british voiced ones?

Let me start by saying that I indeed love the Z speaker for my Cure, but I also like to experiment. I also tried a Blue in my Cure and loved it. I then decided to get a Gold to try. I really like it! Perhaps it's the upper mids I like.

I have a Blue in my Cure right now and love it. I can hammer it and get it to give up the goods easily. I don’t eq such that it farts out or flubs. Love the Z12 in it too.

I have a Weber ceramic Blue Dog (50watt) in my Z cab convertible...pairs great with the Z speaker. Try rolling the Bass way down and use the Mids as your Bass/Middle...the Treble to bring the chime....add Bass to just warm to bottom but keep it low .... might give the Z speaker more of a British feel, while you wait for the new one.
Keep us posted on the Green back. Enjoy the Cure.

I use an Em Lil Texas Neo in mine, but it's definitely in the American voiced camp. Let us know what you end up with!

The WGS et65 might work for you.

Interesting, Ill give that a try,my current favorite setting is with the bass and mids at about 1:30 and the treble at 11:00 o'clock so Ill give that a shot til the greenback comes in. Ill definitely report back with greenback results. Thanks for the replies everyone!

Just got the greenback, it sounds exactly like I hoped! The z speaker was nice, but the greenback brings the british grind I love! The amp now sounds fantastic! I listed the z speaker on reverb and it sold in 7 minutes! Somebody will enjoy it, and its a fantastic american speaker, but I just love the greenback voicing.
Now in stereo with my marshall, the amps work together just how I wanted them to. The cure brings mids and highs, and the marshall brings mids and lows, and they blend together wonderfully!

This thread has got me thinking. I think the Z speaker is a fine piece of kit, but I've grown very fond of the Creamback I installed in my 1x12 convertible cab, and am very happy using that with my Maz 18 and 38. I just plugged the Cure into that cab instead of its internal speaker, and straight away there was that softer attack and crunch, and less of the tough and immediate response of the Z speaker. I like the result, and I'm now thinking I should get a Creamback to install in the Cure.....hmmm....
I've also been curious about the WGS et65, anyone compared it to the Creamback?

Im glad it got you thinking! In my opinion, the greenback was the best thing I could have done for this amp! It made it more rounded and smooth, with some hints of the british growl, all without clouding the character of the amp!
