Hi, I purchased a Marshall 16-ohm 1X12 speaker cabinet model MX112. I want to swap the stock 16-ohm speaker with my 8-ohm celestion Gold speaker. My question is... do I simply swap speakers or do I need to do something with the wiring making it 8-ohm rather then the stock 16-ohm wiring? Just wanted to chime in before hurting my amp which only has a 8-ohm speaker out. My Cab link...Thank you

Hi,
You should be able to swap the speaker. A Gold might not be the best choice for a closed-back cab. Some feel they sound better in open-back.

Andy Hi Andy, That's a good tip about a Gold in a closed back cab. I picked up a 20 Watt Marshall DSL head and cabinet for cheap locally and wanted to upgrade the stock speaker in the cab. I spent so much time trying to master the fretboard of a guitar that I don't know much about the technical stuff like speaker swaps etc:).. Any speaker suggestions for the Marshall DSL? Thanks, Bobby

Bobby,
The answer would depend on the sounds you like. To go with a Marshall head, I'd start looking at speakers that have been used by that company. A Greenback, Vintage 30 or G12H30 would be good ones to start with. Each of those models sound different. You should be able to find sound-samples on-line to help guide you. Eminence and Warehouse Guitar Speakers make affordable versions of these units as well. Good luck on your quest.
