It’s been some time since I shipped an amp. Any thoughts on the cost of shipping a Maz 18 with two tens ( 40 ish lbs ) in the continental USA? I see adds on reverb with shipping costs of 50 to 75. My guess would be the actual cost is at least $75.

Yeah, I find the $65-$75 range for a 1x12 combo... My 1x12 Mesa Boogie Mark V combo was 97 pounds boxed up, and cost $95 with $1800 insurance.
A 1x12 Avatar cab I sold last year, insured at $250, cost me around $50.
That's if you pack it yourself.... If the UPS store packs it, add another $25-$50.

Shipping ain’t cheap. That’s for sure. I always box whatever I’m shipping and weigh it, take the measurements and add insurance. Then, since I’m on the east coast, I estimate shipping to California or Washington state. This is usually the most you will pay. Another rule of thumb is, if it’s crossing the Mississippi River either way, it’s costing more money. Good luck.

I'm waiting for my son to get an amp shipped to me from Oregon. I'll pitch in when I get the bill.

This is a good one on me. I sold a Reunion Blues gig bag for $100 on eBay with free shipping. It cost me $90 to ship it! Haha!

Well, he just got it shipped, and it weighs 78 pounds in two boxes, (I had him pull the EVM12L out to save the stress on the amp cab in shipment) and the bill for packing and ground shipping from Hillsboro, OR to Swartz Creek, MI was...$264.19. I'm still in shock, the amp's base cost on Craigslist was $300 and I paid the seller another $100 to deliver it 150 miles to my son's house. So I'm into that stupid amplifier for $665.00, $h!$hkabob!!! He was told that it's because it is so heavy in a concentrated volume. Sounds like a load of $*@( to me but that's what it is.

I bought a transmission, flywheel, clutch, crossmember and driveshaft from a guy in New York, and he shipped it to me (Montana) via UPS for 100 bux. I couldn't believe it - he said he got a good deal on shipping through his company, but still...

Even fully insured, I don’t think I’ve ever paid more than $95 to ship east to west coast for a heavy amp head or cab. I would guess that most of the cost there was probably from packing. I always cringe at the thought of having a shipper pack any of my items in regards to both quality and cost. Even if it means I need to go out of my way to find packing materials, I always make the effort. I realize it’s not easy, but it usually saves a lot of cash.

The problem is that my son hasn't had any experience packing amps for shipment and he was pressed for time too. So I had to bite the bullet and pay FedEx to pack it. I had them insure it for $1000, so I hope that they won't have a leg to stand on if it's damaged in shipment. They better not!!! I always pack an amp myself, and as you know there's a right way and a wrong way. Doc's technique of using expanding foam inserts is the best I've seen but I usually just use folded cardboard strategically placed, with a double or triple wall on the front of the amp to protect the speaker grill. And I ALWAYS pack it in an oversize garbage bag first to protect it from moisture. I still wasn't ready for over $250 shipping though. Kinda blew my old mind!

If you are working through Reverb insist your seller uses Reverb to buy the label. The Reverb Protection is the real deal. When my first Dr Z got destroyed by USP from an ebay purchase ($850 shipped!) it took me months to straighten everything out. The end result, after 6 months I had to eat shipping back to the seller and got a refund. That included doing all the running around and arguing with UPS.
A couple months ago I had a seller put a Swarts amp in a box with no padding on the bottom or side of the box. Amp came with a cracked cabinet. Within two weeks I had money from Reverb to pay for a new cabinet. They were great to work with.
Also, I've had the best luck with FedEx as it comes to heavy stuff. But there are not cheap.
