Don and company did an outstanding job on the upgrade of my NR. Like getting an all new amp. Much richer distortion but still has the chimey cleans the circuit is known for. Leaves me wondering if this PPIMV would be possible in the Lux....

I seriously didn't think the Maz could be any better, but that upgrade is really terrific. It took a great amp and made it legendary.

Thinking about my previous statement regarding that MV in the Lux and reading an old post from Doc, it is a tweaked MV that he was experimenting specifically with the Maz a few years ago. He also did some tests with power scaling but preferred the MV hands down. Point is, he may or may not be toying with a PPIMV for the Lux but it would likely not be a one MV fits all situation. Have to wait and see. Just really stoked about the results with the Maz, awesome!!

Yes. The Maz 18 MKII is a different animal.

Amen. It’s a “plug straight into the amp and to hell with your stinkin pedals” kind of circuit now.

I was running an ET-65 in mine but for fun I swapped speakers with the Celestion Gold from my Z-Wreck combo.
Ding Ding Ding Ding we have a winner!!!
It's a Win-Win. The Maz 18NRII sounds fabulous with the Gold and the Wreck sounds terrific with the ET-65, which is less efficient so I can crank the Wreck up louder and get to the sweet zone faster. Both amps sound out of this world.

Believe the hype folks, the MKII is quickly becoming my favorite rock amp ever. Right now it’s between the MKII and the Therapy. MKII is breaking away from the peloton though. Through an open back 2x12 with Celestion blues and tonestack bypass on full, has to be heard to be believed. If I could recommend only one amp, this would be it.

This is my 5th Z. I had a great Ghia, but it sustained a lot of damage to the cabinet in a shipping mishap. The next Ghia was only okay. I liked the Therapy fine, but got tired of lugging a head and cab around. The Cure didn't do it for me. Before I owned any Z I played through a Maz 38 and didn't like it at all. I didn't know much at the time about taking the time to dial in amps (a Mesa cured me of that). I stepped out on a Maz 18 NR and I can't believe how amazing this thing is. I'm heading to Cleveland in a couple of weeks and reached out about dropping the amp off for the upgrade. Excited to visit the shop and see what this upgrade is going to do to what is already my favorite amp ever.

Hold onto your hat when it gets back. Your favorite amp is about to get even better. Trust me!

I was making the 3 hour trip to Cleveland to see a show at the House of Blues, so I reached out to see if I could just drop my Maz off for the updates. Dan was really helpful and was cool with me stopping in. He was gracious enough to show me around the shop and I got to meet the Dr. himself. Mike was super gracious and took a few minutes to chat. I had to play it cool when he asked if I had played a MkII yet and when I said I hadn't he told Dan to set me up in the testing room. Said if there was a Maz I should plan it, but I could play anything I wanted. I did my best to act like I didn't need to, the truth is I didn't want them to have to kick me out hours later when I couldn't stop running through amps. Great shop, great people. Proud to play the Z. Hoping to see my Maz back in the next couple weeks.
