My Maz 38 reverb head has started making a kind of rustling noise when I switch the standby off (ie to play), and again when I switch it on. It only lasts a second or so then goes, and the amp sounds fine. The amp has been standing doing nothing for a while since I got my Maz 18, so I fired it up to make sure all was still OK, but heard this. I immediately thought maybe some dust or something had got in, so I cleaned all the tube sockets and all the jack sockets. The noise was still there, so I changed V1 to e new JJ ECC83 and the noise went. All was fine for a couple of days, and now I hear that same noise creeping back again. Strangely, I remember the Ghia I used to own had the same issue for a while, and from memory I went through the same process and the noise went.
Any ideas? All gratefully received, thanks!

I’ve several amps that do that. Some intermittent static when going live from standby. Lasts for about a second, then gone. Like something reacting to the high tension voltage when coming out of standby. I’ve never let it worry me, but always wondered what caused it.

I've had that happen numerous times over the years. It always goes away with a tube change. One exception was a bad capacitor in the tone stack of a 1961 Bandmaster. Try putting a patch cord between the in/out of the loop. It may be dirty jacks in the loop.

I always use a jumper in the loop jacks of an amp when not using the loop. Switching jacks are a necessary evil.

Thanks guys, I've tried jumping the send and return, bit it's still the same. I guess it's a tube issue, I'll just live with it until I solve it.
