This amp sounds amazing. I don't see how any amp could sound better!

I agree markT, that 38 is lovely to behold! If you were limited to just one amp, well…
Slightly OT but I have a couple of those Nash extra heavy aged Teles and I dearly love them. One is actually a JB Esquire. They look about like they were tied behind a Jeep and dragged through a war zone for a week. But there’s nothing you can do to hurt them and you sure don’t worry about that first nick! I realize they aren’t for everybody so I’m not trying to get started up here.

I see that Doc now has the 38 NR with a 1/2-power switch, effectively giving you the Jr. & Sr. models in one. Between the 1/2-power switch AND the newer Mk.II circuit with improved Master Volume, I can't seem to find a reason why the latest MAZ 38 wouldn't be the ideal and most-versatile Z-amp.

My 38nr has that 1/2 power switch too. When engaged, it basically sounds like the 38 at full power, but knocks off considerable volume. So if you like the cleaner 38 tones, they are there, and if you like the grittier 38 tones, they are a little easier to get at 1/2 power. I would also say that getting a 38 with the half power switch doesn't make it the Jr. The Jr has it's own thing going with tones the 38 can't do, and vice versa. Different transformers or whatever making the difference, but they are both stellar, and quite different (to me at least). In general, if I want great clean, the 38 wins, and if I want over the top distortion, the 18 wins. I think they are different enough that if someone didn't like one, they might adore the other, and that goes both ways. Just trying to post an opinion/thought in case someone is wondering.

I've got the Maz 38 MkII with 1/2 power switch - so flexible and it sounds great as you would expect! It was actually BPs Maz 38 he sent it in for work but Doc sent him back new one and used this one to do his prototype work.

It was actually BPs Maz 38 he sent it in for work but Doc sent him back new one and used this one to do his prototype work. When I was in Nashville in the fall one of the shops had a bunch of Brad's Bruno amps for sale. Probably moving them out to make more room for the Z's. How much of a difference do you feel the 1/2 power switch makes, and it seems like the practical application would be if you were running your amp super hot and either wanted the headroom of the 38 or the grind of the pre and post gain working? I stumbled into the 38 simply because it was a great deal and I wanted to flip my 18 into the studio cab. But I really liked the extra headroom of the big guy and kept it. It already has the mkii, but the tinkerer in me is curious about the 1/2 power mod.
