I own a Maz 8 and a Z-Plus. Love both, because I enjoy the British-ness of the 8, and the Fender-y stuff I can get out of the Z-Plus. For live use, I want to use the 8, but there’s not enough stage volume with the new hard hitting drummer we got. Was thinking about picking up a Maz 18 and letting go of the 8. Thoughts? Opinions of folks who own (or have owned) an 8 and an 18 are preferred, but all opinions are appreciated. Thanks!

Make sure you get the MV upgrade.

I've got them both, and I'm keeping them both! I did get the MKII upgrade done for both amps and I highly, highly recommend it. I was going to let the 8 go but it's just too sweet to sell. I know I'd regret it before I got it boxed up...

I bought a Maz 18 in 2012, but it was too loud for church and weighed 60 pounds. I bought a Maz 8 studio for church and it was great. I sold my Maz 18 in 2017. When the Maz 18 MKII came out this year, I sold my Maz 8 and bought a Maz 18 MKII Studio. I have not missed the Maz 8.

I love my 8. I've had both. If I owned a Z-Plus though I would have no problem selling the 8 to get an 18. Also if I had the Z-Plus I'd think twice about the need for the "upgrade mod" to the 18. You won't have as much use for the lower settings of the MV when you own both amps.

I had an 18. The only reason I sold it is I could never crank it up. Even with a band. I even used a Brake-lite. Not an updated model though. I got an 8 head recently and had the updates done. I use it with either a 1x12 or 2x12. My other rig is a Helix set up. Best of both worlds.
But I would get an 18 again and keep both if I had a need for it. This way I'd have the 18 for larger gigs and the 8 for smaller places. Credit to David Grissom's advice "Bring the right amp to the right gig."

Been a number of times were my 18's were on the ropes not so much from drummers, but bass players too that play too loud (wanna be gtr players)...I don't understand when people say there too loud...they work as pedal platform as well I guess...guess the tone is what im after more than anything...wouldn't be without one...

I'm opposite - I've considered replacing the 18 with an 8 because the 18 is always attenuated 3 or 4 clicks when I play - but mine does not have the new master either. I have to wonder how much updating the 18 would help out in that regard...

I took the Brake Lite out of my Maz 18NR after the mod. It's that good.
