I was playing last night on the low imput and full power when the sound started getting quieter and quieter and then finally no sound at all. I changed guitars and cables and still no sound. I switched to high imput and 1/2 power and nothing. All the tubes are glowing. This is really disappointing that after 2 weeks the amp craps out. I will be calling the Docter to find out how to proceed. Any ideas on what it could be? I thinking a tube... but I'm not sure. Oh well... looks like I'll be playing me vox pathfinder... that amp always works.

99% of the time it is tubes. Check the Dr.Z website for the trouble shooting process. As good as Doc’s amps are even he can’t control the poor quality tubes being produced these days.

Did it make any funny noises or did you smell any burning or hot electrical smell? If not, start with the rectifier. Just because the filaments are glowing doesn't mean the tube isn't shot. I'm with Mike on this one, most likely a tube issue.

This is the (to me, slight) tradeoff between using a solid state amp and a tube amp. You just end up having some spare tubes so you can change them out.

Hey guys, thanks for the replys. The amp made no funny noise or no burning smell... it just went quiet. I agree probably a tube. I know the Dr. Makes great amps... and he can't control the crappy tubes that are being produced these days... just venting.

Tube failures suck period, but when they don't take any part of the amp with them (as is very likely in your case), it's a plug-and-play fix. Sounds like the amp slowly lost power so I would suspect the rectifier died a quiet death vice arcing out. But could be any one of the preamp or power tubes. Hopefully you have some extra tubes to diagnose with (possibly from other amps you might have). Keep us posted!

FIXED!!!!!! Well it turned out to be a bad pre amp tube... V2 JJ ECC83S. I had a spare so I used that. Any recommendations for better pre amp tubes or should I just stick with what it came with? I will replace the rectifier tube with a NOS one from KCA NOS TUBES... anyways thanks for all the help.
