I am currently experimenting with a vintage Traynor YGM-3. It's a cool amp but the tone stack is unusual, at least to me. It also has a few other circuit quirks that cause it to have a very boomy tone that cannot be dialed out without with out losing critical midrange. I am changing the cutoff to allow me to roll off only those unneeded low frequencies. I'm also experimenting with some other bypass and coupling cap changes.
This experiment has reinforced my appreciation for how well Doc has dialed in the tone stack on MAZ amps. That Bass control on those amps is about as close to perfection as I have encountered on any amp.
