I just purchased Bluesmans Z-28 a week ago and got it today. Wow what a nice sounding amp. I tried it with the greenback that came with it and liked what I heard but when I put my Alncio cream in it I was liking it even more. Man what a sound. I can't wait to gig this amp on Sunday. I need a break from my Vibro King that thing is just too heavy! And this Z-28 is the lighter weight combo too! It is just what the Doctor ordered! Great sounding amp! Thanks Bluesman!

Congrats - the 28 has been my number one amp for years now - just love it. I too believe in the greenback in the combo but as I have never had a creamback you piqued my interest. How would you describe the diff?

Congrats - the 28 has been my number one amp for years now - just love it. I too believe in the greenback in the combo but as I have never had a creamback you piqued my interest. How would you describe the diff? It’s actually not a creamback it’s the Alnico Cream which is kind of like a cross between the alnico blue and the alnico gold. It’s like Celestion took the best quality’s of those two speakers and put then into this one. It’s 90 watts so you have plenty of power plus it sounds great at lower volumes. It’s very vintage sounding real nice bell like tones nice warm overdrive and crunch. It has good articulation and warmth it’s real fat sounding. I had the gold in my maz jr and even the remedy when I had them and liked the gold quite a bit. I also tried the blue but didn’t like the flubby bass on it. The alnico cream has a real good bass and treble tone too it. It’s not shrill or too boomy. It’s just voiced perfectly. I noticed when I did the 3 3 3 setting and compared the greenback to the alnico cream that the cream had a fatter tone maybe rounder? It’s hard to describe. I bought it based on Mark T post here on the forum and he was right on about it. It sounds great clean and overdriven.

I had creambacks in amps and they are great as well The alnico cream is expensive though but the good news is If you bought one and didn’t like it you could sell it for pretty close to what you paid for it. Especially if you get one on a 15 or 20 per cent discount. That’s what I always try to do or just buy one used.

Randy, a few things:
First, congratulations on the Z-28. Even after all these years it's my favorite Z model and while a I prefer a head as I don't play out any more, that combo is exactly what I would have special ordered (except maybe with the Z12 speaker).
Second, I've never tried the alnico cream but that was a GAS inducing description. Never been a fan of the Blue except when paired with a Gold.
Third, love the boxer. The ones I've met are great dogs (my wife is a dog trainer so I've met a few).

We rescued her from the pound she has been bit by rattlesnakes twice already in her life both times through the grace of God she survived it. We live in ca Coyotes road runners you name it they are around. I have had Rottweilers in the Past and always wanted a boxer but was hesitant because some of them don’t live that long but I named her Zoe which means life and she has lived up to her name. I was worried in August I thought I was going to have to put her down. Her left leg gives out on her sometimes . Her hips are giving her some problems. My vet got her on some special food and I have shortened our walks and we are now just taking things day to day. She is the best dog I have ever had. She’s special. But as for the alnico cream It’s more like the blue then the gold. It just don’t have that loose bass like the blue. I had it in my mesa boogie cab that I sold I was using it with a Marshall 2061x that I sold as well. The cream right out the box sounds Rich and dynamic honestly it’s the best speaker I have come across It pairs up really good with these Z amps. Like I said before it is expensive. I had to flip some gear to get mine. I sold that cab without a speaker in it. There was no way I was letting that alnico go that’s how good it is. And the combo is like the perfect weight. [b

Oh and also I didn’t like the blue but I liked the gold and this speaker has the best quality’s of both of those speakers but it also has its own thing going on as well.

I was messing around today going back and forth between the Z-28 and my Fender Vibro King my Vibro king has the blue frame alnico speakers in it.
And with the Alnico Cream in the Z-28 I was able to dial in the Z-28 to get pretty darn close to the Vibro King tone I like it was amazing. I had the Z- 28 set at volume 9 bass 9 and treble 1 I was going back and forth and the sounds where very close the only thing is that VK has such a killer reverb. But still I was more than happy at how awesome the Z-28 sounds. Just the perfect amp for me right now. It has that Fender/Marshall thing that I love.
