I own a Z Wreck that I absolutely love and I have become intrigued by what I've been reading and hearing when it comes to the Nova. I also understand that someone of BW's talent level (which I am not!) can make pretty much anything sound good. So I am hoping that some of you guys that own a Nova and also own (or have owned) a Z Wreck can give me some insight on difference and if the Nova would be a good amp to have along with the Z, I don't plan on running 2 amps at the same time as I have tried this before and it's too much hassle for the small places I play. If I would decide to scrape together the funds for a Nova I would want a red one so I don't have a lot of time to make this decision. Thanks!

I've owned a Wreck and it's a great amp. The primary difference between it and the Nova (to my ears) is that the Wreck leans more toward the Vox/chimey camp while the Nova is more in Tweed territory. That and the obvious OD circuit make it (to me) more versatile. Don't get me wrong here, the Wreck is a fabulous amp. The only reason I sold it to brother Dave here on the forum is that it wasn't getting much use. I only play 15-20 shows a year now, and most of those have been going to my Cure.
I'd recommend you get a Nova now if you want one in Red (like mine!). Welcome to the forum! Let us know what you decide.

The NOVA has a different voice than the Z wreck. This is a good thing. If you are looking to get an amp that is different from what you have this would be a way to go.
Also, from a feature standpoint the NOVA has some really cool things going. The buffered affects loop is very cool. The Overdrive feature is also extremely good, the ability to blend the clean and drive signal is really awesome. Plus it has a very good master volume!!
Red is only available for a little while longer . . . . . . . .

I have a Z-Wreck and if I was going to buy a new amp tomorrow, it would be a NOVA. It's probably the most versatile (next to the MAZ series) amp that has come out from us in a few years. The cleans are just as good as the gain, and the gain is on the higher side of the spectrum in the line.

Hey novaians!
When at gigging volume, can you channel switch And keep the volumes level? Or is there a boost?
Some 2 channel amps made it hard to use both sides,
So can you adjust volume for clean and mean independently?

That's one of the things I dig about it, besides the meaty tweed tone. You can pretty much balance the clean/dirty sides as you like. It's versatile and sounds wonderful. I usually leave my pedal board at home when I gig the Nova.

I haven't gigged mine yet, but I've played it a lot at home in preparation. Dave is right, within reason, you can get a nice clean and OD without the big jump in volume. The only exception I've found is if I want to go from real clean to heavy OD. That would produce a jump due to running the OD knob hotter. I've found the OD set at about 9 o'clock is about right to get a nice low to medium gain. Volume knob is in the noonish territory, Master to need.

My experience is the same as Dave and Lou have reported.
I've also had good results running the amp with a bit more from the OD knob and just using the guitar volume to both reduce output and clean up the sound. It's a very versatile amp, but I don't think it can do very clean and very dirty at the same output level just by hitting the OD switch.

You can set up the drive to be the same volume or make it louder if you want.
