Looking for a delay pedal for my Maz 8. Not a huge delay junkie...just want something that is fairly easy to use. As always, I’m looking to buy used. Was considering a Strymon Brigadier or El Capistan. Thoughts?

I love my el cap. You can tweak the brightness using the bias control and the tape age. I also love my minifooger delay from Moog. Bonus it has a killer drive boost built in. It can be noisy is the only drawback (it’s analog). Never used the brigadier.

I know that you can tweak it, I’ve used Strymon pedals for years. It’s what they do to the dry signal that I don’t like, their buffer is really sterile and cold like ice.

I’ve personally never noticed that, and I have it set to trails mode.

Mad Professor Deep Blue Delay. You don't need the hand wired version. PCB version is fine. Simple. Great sound.

I've used TC Electronics Flashback. Decent delay for a modest price.

TC Flashback as well. For as little as I use it, it works great and I like the Toneprint option. I tried running the pedal through the effects loop but I didn't really hear much difference so it's back in front of the amp with everything else.

I've got the TC Flashback mini and the X4. I get the most use out of the mini, it sounds good and the Toneprints are great.

If you like tape delay, I just tried the belle epoch deluxe today. Killer delay

I use the Nemesis Delay and a boss DD-3. Ive been thinking about getting rid of the DD-3 though because I really like having a tap tempo switch. The El Cap is also on my radar.

I pulled out my old Boss dd5 ( I believe that was the version) after decades and played around with that until I burned through a battery. I found some fun sounds with that. I've also had my eye on the Seymour Duncan Vapor Trail.

I'll have to see what it's all about. Perhaps you could shed some light.

I have a TC Alter Ego, which is basically a Flashback. I mostly use a slapback setting and the analog delay setting. I have an El Cap also. It's terrific, but my gig board is a PT Mini, so the TC stays.

I’ve never tried the regular epoch which is why I was curious. 22 volt regulated pre amp that is supposed to be dead nuts to the ep3. Sounded almost exactly like a gray ep3 at the store. I want one but it’s $370. Still half the price of an ep3.

I'm strictly analog. I have an AnalogMan delay. It's kind of pricey for what it does but I like it a LOT. If I was going for something a little cheaper it would be a MXR Carbon Copy.

I have a Maz 8. Most any delay is going to sound great with it because it is a great amp! I am sure the Strymon stuff is great, but too expensive for me. If you have the extra cash then go for it though! It really depends on what you need in a delay pedal. Do you need tap tempo, do you need/want ambient sounds, dotted 8th, etc.
I have 2 delay pedals that work great with my Maz 8. As others have said, the 4 knob TC Electronics Flashback sounds wonderful with the Maz 8. It is very versatile. I really like the Tape mode on it. I am sure the Strymon stuff is better, but the Flashback is excellent! I have been pricing them and considering getting another used one for backup. They are going for $90 or a little less used right now. The basic boss DD-3 etc. are basic pedals that sound great too. DD-3 is less versatile, but sounds good.
My other delay is the Diamond Memory lane Jr. I use the dotted 8th setting a lot on this and the tap tempo is really easy to tap in on this pedal. It is a very clean sounding delay. I also had a MXR Carbon Copy in the past. Kind of miss that one. Hope this helps!

I have a Cmatmods Deeelay. I always have it on in front of my Maz 18 NR for a little "wet". I have tried reverb pedals but can't bond. The Deeelay is a simple pedal, easy to use and sounds great!

By the way, I understand the AnalogMan delay is the favorite of the guys on That Pedal Show. It’s very nice. They had a used one locally a few weeks ago, but it wasn’t enough better than what I have to get it. Very low noise for an analog delay. I’m just under the sirens’ call of a tape echo. Wish I could afford the ep3 that’s for sale, haha.
