I was playing my Therapy and it suddenly stopped working correctly. There was still white noise and some faint hiss to be heard. One of the power tubes was glowing a different white than normal it seems... Also when it went down there was an audible pop and then a a few seconds later I noticed smoke coming up out of the top of the the amp, through the vent grate. I am reluctant to change tubes with the strange pop and smoke that I heard and saw. Like I mentioned the jewel light remained on and the power tubes and rectifier tubes glowed and there was noise but it just wouldn't produce any tones when the guitar was played. I couldn't tell if the preamp tubes were glowing because the covers were on them. Maybe I'll pull the chassis out when I get home and see if I can see if anything was fried... Any ideas? I'm guessing it might have to be sent into the Z shop...

Check the video out first. It won't hurt to pull the chassis and look, but I bet you're going to find a discolored/burnt resistor on a power tube socket. It sounds like a power tube went south and a screen resistor got hot, but it's impossible to tell with what we know thusfar. Go through the guide and shoot an email to Don at Z amp repairs. The address is on Z's website, good luck.

You released the magic screen grid resistor smoke. The mojo has left the building... time for a tech trip

Pulled the chassis and I think I may have located the issue, lol... Holy smokes, literally. I'll contact Don and send my Therapy in for some help.

Spraque Bias By-Pass cap failed. Probably had a tube fail that then caused the cap to fail. Don will respond tomorrow. Not a serious problem , new set of Output tubes and a replacement cap and you'll be back in business. Z

Looks like the power tube cathode bypass cap blew. Sometimes this happens when the PT cathode resister heats up and if the cap is too close it can open up. And sometimes they just fail. Don will have it up and running ricky-tick!

I filled out and sent the repair form on your site to Don earlier as well. In the meantime I'll just have to make do with my Zlux... This is exactly why I buy Z amps and prefer the Z forum to all other forums!

Update: Sent it in to the Z headquarters and Don and the kind folks there fixed up my Therapy, dropped some new tubes in, and I just got it back today and it sounds great! Very happy to have it back working again.
