Played a Blues Festival last week in Nanaimo B.C. (Canada), got a lot of compliments on my great “Les Paul tone”. As you probably know, Les Pauls don’t sound like much without a great amp...

Nice! Some good playing usually helps the tone too. The amp probably help a bit too! Ha ha
That's a nice compliment to get!!

Do you play straight in...Guitar-Cable-Amp? I love my Z-Lux with the Volume cranked all the way and Master Volume to suit. They're huge.

Volume is around 1:00-1:30 so I can get a nice clean if needed but there is a bit of hair when you dig in, master was around 9:30 (was plenty loud). I almost always leave an Xotic EP booster on (turned as low as it can go) and a Z-Drive for most songs. If I’m using the Z-Drive it’s mostly the green channel with the Drive set pretty low but I’ll throw on the red on as needed (also drive set pretty low). I almost always have the tonestack bypass engaged. I keep planning to use it as a boost but then we get playing and I’ve set things too quiet and “need” to keep the boost on :-). With all those options I still work the volume knobs on my guitar too.
And for a couple of songs where I need some slapback I have a Catlinbread Echorec.

Very cool! I see you replaced the original volume knobs with creme colored ones. I did the same thing (creme colored chicken heads, actually). It makes it much easier to adjust volume on dimly lighted stages, etc. Cheers!

Yep those are actually two knobs from my Remedy that I had replaced with chicken heads. I spent some time one night adjusting the reverb instead of the master volume and wondering why I wasn’t getting any louder... in a dark room I just can’t read that font, as classy looking as it is.

Yep--when I gig the Lux or the Cure I consistently get compliments on my tone (and sometimes on my playing). Sounding good is the main thing; there's a guy here locally who's a pretty flashy player but his tone's so ice-picky dogs all over town hide under the bed whenever he takes a solo. If you've got decent chops and great tone, you'll be a pleasure to listen to and just about any band would be happy to have you. If you've got terrible tone you'll drive people out of the room even if you've got technique out the old wazoo.
